First Officer Position at Republic Airways
Overview
Republic Airways, a leading regional airline in North America, seeks a highly skilled and motivated First Officer to join our team. The First Officer will work in tandem with the Captain to ensure safe and timely operation of our Embraer 170/175 aircraft. This role is integral to our commitment to operational excellence and passenger satisfaction.
Responsibilities
The First Officer will be responsible for a variety of critical duties, including:
- Flight Planning and Preparation: Collaborate with the Captain to meticulously plan each flight, utilizing all applicable weather information and adhering to Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). Conduct preflight inspections to ensure the aircraft's airworthiness.
- Aircraft Operations: Operate the aircraft safely and effectively under the Captain's guidance, ensuring compliance with FARs and Company standards. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of aircraft equipment, relevant regulations, and all applicable manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Passenger and Crew Communication: Alert crew and passengers of any potential turbulence or operational factors affecting the flight. Communicate effectively and professionally with passengers, crew, air traffic control, and other relevant parties.
- Operational Efficiency: Contribute to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and turn-around times.
- Aircraft and Passenger Handling: Assist with and ensure proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Professionalism and Attendance: Maintain a professional appearance at all times, adhering to the Company uniform dress code. Ensure regular and reliable attendance according to Company procedures.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must meet minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written is preferred.
- Must meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements established by the FAA and the Company.
- Candidates meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums are eligible for hire upon successful completion of the interview process if they:
- Meet hiring minimums within six months of the interview date.
- Have no certificate action since the interview date.
- Have no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
- Accept class date within six months of the interview date.
- Preferred Education and Experience: Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
- Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, often under pressure or in emergency situations. Must be able to communicate effectively with management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public. Fluency in English is required, including the ability to communicate clearly and effectively in shouted verbal commands during emergencies.
- Reasoning and Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations with limited standardization. Must be able to interpret and understand multiple instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format. Essential to remain calm and think and react quickly in emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, etc.
- Decision-Making and Impact of Errors: Make decisions to support strategic direction. Decisions will typically be medium range and of moderate significance with moderate consequences, but may occasionally be significant and have safety-of-flight implications. Must be able to process information quickly and react positively in unexpected or serious situations. Strong emotional control and ability to act appropriately under high levels of stress are essential.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Capability to lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds at different heights.
- Must meet FAA visual standards.
- Ability to hear clearly verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possess the stamina needed to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperatures, climate, and weather conditions.
- Must be able to move about the aircraft freely, effectively, and quickly in a confined environment.
- Must be able to sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment
- The position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Must withstand outdoor weather conditions within an open air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Noise levels may be loud, and the use of a headset is required.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early morning, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with lack of scheduling control and be ready to report to work with little notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
