First Officer - Republic Airways
Position Overview:
The First Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and timely operation of Republic Airways aircraft. This position reports to the Captain and assists in all aspects of flight management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Captain to meticulously plan each flight, leveraging all pertinent weather data and reports in compliance with Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Conducts thorough preflight inspections, ensuring the aircraft's airworthiness in accordance with FARs and Company regulations.
- Actively participates in the flight planning process, working with the Captain to guarantee appropriate fueling and safe operation within established policies and regulations.
- Operates the aircraft proficiently and safely during the designated duty period, adhering to the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company policies.
- Possesses a comprehensive understanding of the aircraft's systems, applicable FARs, and all relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
- Communicates effectively with the crew and passengers, informing them of any potential turbulence or operational factors impacting the flight.
- Completes the load manifest for each flight, ensuring accurate documentation of passengers and cargo.
- Contributes to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and minimum turn times.
- While at the terminal, assists with and ensures the proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Maintains consistent and reliable attendance according to Company procedures and practices.
- Presents a professional appearance and adheres to the Company's uniform dress code.
- Exhibits professional conduct at all times while on duty and strictly observes the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other relevant policies and procedures.
- Participates in ongoing professional training to enhance performance and skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (RATP) certificate.
- ATP written exam completion is preferred.
- Must meet current minimum age and flight hour requirements established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Company.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, demonstrating proficiency in handling complex information quickly and under pressure, including emergency situations.
- Effective communication skills to present information to and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Fluency in English, including the ability to communicate clearly in shouted verbal commands during emergencies.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability:
- Proven ability to solve practical problems and handle various variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Capable of understanding and interpreting multiple instructions presented in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
- Possesses the composure to remain calm, think critically, and react swiftly in all types of emergency situations, including medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, etc.

- Demonstrates the ability to make decisions that align with the company's strategic direction.
- Decisions typically fall within a medium range of significance and impact, with moderate consequences. However, in unusual circumstances, decisions may carry significant weight and have safety-of-flight implications.
- Possesses the ability to process information rapidly and react positively during unexpected or serious situations.
- Demonstrates effective emotional intelligence, maintaining composure and acting appropriately under high-stress conditions.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to engage in various physical activities, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, and crawling.
- Must be able to sit for extended periods without standing.
- Capable of lifting or moving items at different heights, weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Meets visual demands outlined in the medical standards established by the FAA.
- Possesses clear hearing ability to comprehend verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset, even amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Maintains the stamina required for long work days, including consecutive days, with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Able to navigate the aircraft freely, effectively, and swiftly within a confined environment.
- Must be able to comfortably sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with the seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment:
- The work environment typically involves proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Requires the ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions, both within an open-air hangar and on the flight line, for extended periods.
- The noise level may be loud, and the use of a headset is mandatory.
- Requires flexibility to work extended duty periods on consecutive days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel is expected up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Must be prepared for extended hours with limited scheduling control and readiness to report to work with short notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
