First Officer - Republic Airways
Overview
This role provides essential support to the aircraft Captain, ensuring the safe and timely operation of the aircraft while adhering to all applicable regulations and company policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborates with the Captain in meticulous flight planning, utilizing comprehensive weather information and reports in accordance with Company policies and procedures, as well as Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Conducts thorough preflight inspections to verify aircraft airworthiness according to FARs and Company protocols.
- Works in tandem with the Captain to ensure proper flight planning and fuel management, prioritizing safety and regulatory compliance.
- Operates the aircraft during designated duty periods in accordance with the Captain's instructions, FARs, and Company policies and procedures.
- Maintains an in-depth understanding of aircraft equipment, operational FARs, and relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
- Informs crew and passengers of turbulent weather conditions or any operational factors impacting the flight.
- Completes load manifests for each flight.
- Contributes to reliable and on-time operations by assisting the Captain in meeting all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times.
- Assists with and ensures proper handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance in accordance with Company procedures and practices.
- Presents a professional appearance and adheres to the Company uniform dress code.
- Conducts oneself professionally at all times while on duty, observing the Rules of Conduct for all associates as outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other related policies and procedures.
- Actively pursues professional training to enhance performance and abilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, particularly in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Excellent communication skills, enabling effective presentation of information to and response to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Fluency in spoken English, including clear and understandable verbal commands during emergency situations.
- Proven ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where standardization is limited.
- Capacity to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Exceptional composure and quick-thinking abilities in all types of emergency situations, including but not limited to medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.
- Demonstrated decision-making capabilities supporting strategic direction.
- Ability to make sound, medium-range decisions with moderate consequences, recognizing that in unusual situations, decisions may be significant and have safety-of-flight implications.
- Capacity to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected or serious situations.
- Strong emotional control and ability to act appropriately under high levels of stress.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written is preferred.
- Adherence to current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and Company.
Candidates meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums will be eligible for hire upon successful completion of the interview process if they:
- Meet the Hiring Minimums within six months of the interview date.
- Have no certificate action since the interview date.
- Have no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
- Accept class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Education and/or Experience
- Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Ability to sit for extended periods without standing.
- Capable of lifting or moving items at different heights weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Adherence to visual demands established by the FAA medical standards.
- Clear hearing for verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Stamina to work long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperatures, climate, and weather conditions.
- Ability to move freely, effectively, and quickly throughout the aircraft in confined environments.
- Ability to sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without any modifications.
Work Environment
- This position requires the ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Tolerance for outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Ability to work in loud environments and utilize headsets as required.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with minimal scheduling control and be ready to report to work with little notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
