First Officer - Republic Airways
Position Overview
Republic Airways seeks a skilled and dedicated First Officer to join our growing team. As a First Officer, you will be responsible for assisting the Captain in the safe and efficient operation of our aircraft, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for our passengers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Captain in meticulous flight planning, utilizing all applicable weather information and reports in accordance with Company policies and procedures and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Conduct thorough pre-flight inspections to confirm aircraft airworthiness in accordance with FARs and Company policies and procedures.
- Contribute to safe and efficient flight operations by working with the Captain to ensure proper fuel planning and adherence to all policies and regulations.
- Safely and expertly operate the aircraft under the Captain's guidance during assigned duty periods, always adhering to FARs and Company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the aircraft, FARs governing its operation, and all relevant manuals, policies, procedures, and instructions.
- Promptly notify crew and passengers of any turbulent weather conditions or operational factors affecting the flight.
- Prepare and complete the load manifest for each flight.
- Assist the Captain in achieving all report times, departure times, and minimum turn times, contributing to a reliable and on-time operation.
- Contribute to a positive passenger experience by assisting with aircraft, passenger, baggage, and cargo handling while at the terminal.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance according to Company procedures and practices.
- Present a professional appearance at all times while on duty, adhering to the Company uniform dress code.
- Conduct oneself professionally in all interactions, observing the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and other related policies and procedures.
- Engage in ongoing professional training to enhance skills and capabilities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written certification preferred.
- Meet the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hours requirements set by the FAA and Company.
- For candidates who meet the interview minimums but not the hiring minimums, the following conditions must be met to be eligible for hire upon successful completion of the interview process:
- Achieve the hiring minimums within six months of the interview date.
- Maintain a clean certificate record with no actions taken since the interview date.
- Have no misdemeanors or felonies since the interview date.
- Accept a class date within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- Prior customer service experience, preferably in an aviation environment.
Language Skills:
- Ability to read, analyze, interpret, and understand technical procedures and governmental regulations, often under time pressure and stressful or emergency situations.
- Effective communication skills for presenting information to and responding to questions from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Fluency in English, including the ability to communicate clearly verbally, including shouted commands during emergency situations.
Reasoning/Problem Solving Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Capable of interpreting various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
- Must remain calm, think critically, and react promptly in all types of emergency situations, including (but not limited to): medical emergencies, aircraft decompression, emergency evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, turbulence, etc.
Decision Making & Impact of Errors:
- Makes decisions to support strategic direction.
- Decisions are typically medium-range and of medium significance with moderate consequences, but may be significant and have safety-of-flight consequences in unusual situations.
- Decisions could require additional resource expenditure if not sound and may impact safety.
- Able to process information quickly and react positively during unexpected or serious situations.
- Capable of controlling personal and emotional responses and acting appropriately under high levels of stress.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time without standing.
- Capable of lifting or moving items at different heights weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Must meet visual demands set in the medical standards established by the FAA.
- Ability to clearly hear verbal communications in person, on the telephone, and over a headset with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Stamina for working long days, on sequential days, with frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Ability to move freely, effectively, and quickly throughout the aircraft in a confined environment.
- Ability to sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modifications.
Work Environment:
- Ability to work near moving mechanical parts.
- Tolerance for outdoor weather conditions within an open-air hangar and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Exposure to loud noise levels, requiring the use of a headset.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, as well as a varied schedule, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with limited scheduling control and be prepared to report to work with little notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
