Job Overview
The First Officer, reporting to the Captain, plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and timely operation of aircraft. This position demands a high level of professionalism, technical expertise, and a steadfast commitment to safety.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Captain in meticulous pre-flight planning, utilizing comprehensive weather data and complying with company policies, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and industry best practices.
- Conducts thorough pre-flight inspections to ensure the aircraft is airworthy in accordance with FARs and company regulations.
- Participates in flight planning and fuel management, prioritizing safety and adherence to regulations.
- Operates the aircraft safely and effectively under the direction of the Captain, adhering to FARs and company procedures.
- Maintains a comprehensive understanding of aircraft equipment, relevant FARs, manuals, policies, procedures, and other instructions.
- Informs crew and passengers about turbulent weather conditions or any operational factors impacting the flight.
- Completes the load manifest for each flight.
- Contributes to a reliable and on-time operation by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and turn times.
- Provides support with aircraft, passenger, baggage, and cargo handling at the terminal.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance, adhering to company procedures and practices.
- Presents a professional appearance and complies with the company dress code.
- Demonstrates professional conduct at all times while on duty, adhering to the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual, Associate Handbook, and related policies and procedures.
- Continuously pursues professional training to enhance performance and skills.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Possesses a thorough understanding of aviation regulations, procedures, and best practices.
- Exhibits exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively conveying information to management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Demonstrates strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, capable of remaining calm and reacting quickly in emergency situations.
- Possesses a keen attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Holds an ATP or RATP certificate, meeting the minimum requirements.
- ATP written certification is preferred.
- Meets the minimum age and flight hour requirements established by the FAA and the Company.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Prior customer service experience, ideally in an aviation environment.
Language Skills:
- Proficient in reading, analyzing, interpreting, and understanding technical procedures and governmental regulations, particularly under pressure.
- Fluent in English, capable of clear communication, including shouted commands during emergency situations.
Reasoning and Problem Solving:
- Demonstrates the ability to solve practical problems and handle multiple variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Capable of interpreting various instructions, whether written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled.
- Maintains composure and clear thinking under pressure, effectively managing personal and emotional responses in high-stress situations.

- Makes decisions aligned with strategic direction.
- Decisions are typically medium-range and significant, with potential safety-of-flight consequences in unusual circumstances.
- Possesses the ability to quickly process information and respond positively to unexpected or critical situations.
Physical Demands:
- Able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and crawl.
- Capable of sitting for extended periods without standing.
- Can lift or move objects weighing up to 75 pounds at various heights.
- Meets the visual demands established by the FAA medical standards.
- Possesses clear hearing for in-person, telephone, and headset communication, even with ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Maintains stamina for long days, sequential days, and varying temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Can move freely and efficiently within the confined space of the aircraft.
- Able to comfortably sit in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modifications.
Work Environment:
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Requires tolerance for outdoor weather conditions in open air hangars and on the flight line for extended periods.
- Frequent exposure to loud noise levels, necessitating the use of a headset.
- Willingness and ability to work extended duty periods on sequential days, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements:
- Travel up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Adaptable to working extended hours with limited scheduling control, prepared to report to work on short notice.
- Open to relocation based on the company's operational needs.
