First Officer
Position Purpose:
This role provides essential support to the aircraft Captain, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft and performing various aircraft management duties.
Essential Duties:
The First Officer plays a crucial role in all aspects of flight operations, consistently upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism. Responsibilities include:
- Flight Planning and Preparation:
- Collaborates with the Captain to develop comprehensive flight plans in accordance with Company policies, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and current weather conditions.
- Conducts thorough preflight inspections to verify aircraft airworthiness, adhering to FARs and Company procedures.
- Ensures the aircraft is properly fueled and prepared for a safe and efficient flight, adhering to all regulations and guidelines.
- In-Flight Responsibilities:
- Operates the aircraft safely and effectively under the Captain's guidance, strictly adhering to FARs, Company protocols, and best practices.
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, relevant FARs, operational manuals, and Company procedures.
- Provides timely communication to the crew and passengers regarding turbulence, weather conditions, and any operational factors impacting the flight.
- Completes load manifests accurately for each flight.
- Operational Excellence and Professionalism:
- Contributes to on-time performance by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and turnaround times.
- Provides support at the terminal, ensuring the efficient handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo.
- Maintains impeccable professional conduct, adhering to the Company uniform dress code and the Rules of Conduct outlined in the Flight Operations Manual and Associate Handbook.
- Exhibits a commitment to continuous professional development, actively pursuing training opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Captain and the Company.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Meets the minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate.
- ATP written exam completion is preferred.
- Meets current FAA and Company age and flight hour requirements for interviewing and hiring.
- Candidates meeting interview minimums but not yet hiring minimums may be eligible for hire within six months of the interview date if they:
- Achieve Hiring Minimums within six months.
- Maintain a clean certificate record with no actions taken.
- Have no misdemeanor or felony convictions.
- Accept a class date within six months.
- Language Skills:
- Demonstrates strong communication skills with the ability to read, analyze, interpret, and comprehend technical documents and governmental regulations, often under pressure and in time-sensitive situations.
- Communicates effectively with various stakeholders, including management, dispatch, crew members, passengers, air traffic control, and the general public.
- Speaks and understands English fluently, including the ability to deliver clear verbal commands in emergency situations.

- Possesses strong problem-solving skills, adept at navigating complex situations with limited standardization.
- Interprets and implements instructions effectively, whether delivered in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.
- Remains calm and collected under pressure, demonstrating the ability to think critically and react decisively in emergency scenarios, including medical situations, aircraft decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, passenger disturbances, and turbulence.

- Understands the potential impact of decisions, recognizing that while most decisions have a moderate impact, some can significantly affect safety-of-flight and resource allocation.

- Physical Demands:
- Maintains the physical capacity to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and crawl as needed.
- Tolerates prolonged periods of sitting.
- Lifts and moves items weighing up to 75 pounds at various heights.
- Meets the visual acuity standards outlined by the FAA medical standards.
- Hears and understands verbal communication clearly in person, over the telephone, and through a headset amidst ambient aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possesses the stamina to work extended hours on consecutive days, adapting to frequent changes in temperature, climate, and weather conditions.
- Moves freely and efficiently within the confined environment of the aircraft, performing all required tasks promptly.
- Sits comfortably in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat while wearing a seatbelt and shoulder harness without requiring modifications.
- Work Environment:
- Works comfortably in close proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Tolerates exposure to outdoor weather conditions for extended periods while working in open-air hangars and on the flight line.
- Adapts to a noisy work environment, utilizing a headset as required.
- Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to work extended hours, including early mornings, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays, often with limited scheduling control and short notice.
- Open to relocating based on the Company's operational needs.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- Prior customer service experience, ideally within the aviation industry.
Travel Requirements:
- Extensive travel is required, up to 100% of the time, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
