Position Purpose:
The First Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our flights. Working closely with the Captain, the First Officer participates in all aspects of flight planning, aircraft management, and passenger care.
Essential Duties:
- Collaborate with the Captain to meticulously plan each flight, analyzing weather conditions and adhering to Company policies, procedures, and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Conduct thorough preflight inspections to verify aircraft airworthiness in accordance with FARs and Company protocols.
- Ensure accurate flight and fuel planning to facilitate safe and compliant operations.
- Safely and effectively operate the aircraft during assigned duty periods, adhering to Captain instructions, FARs, and Company procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, relevant FARs, manuals, policies, and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with crew and passengers regarding turbulence, weather conditions, and other operational factors.
- Prepare accurate load manifests for each flight.
- Contribute to on-time performance by assisting the Captain in meeting report, departure, and turn-around times.
- Ensure professional handling of aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo while at the terminal.
- Maintain impeccable professional conduct and adherence to Company uniform standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Execute additional duties as assigned by the Captain and the Company.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Fulfillment of minimum requirements for an ATP or RATP certificate, with ATP written preferred.
- Meeting current FAA and Company interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to speak and be understood clearly in English, even in high-stress environments.
- Proven ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Previous customer service experience, ideally in an aviation setting.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit for extended periods, as well as climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and crawl.
- Capable of lifting and moving items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to meet FAA visual and auditory standards.
- Stamina to work long hours, consecutive days, and varied schedules.
- Adaptability to changing temperatures, climates, and weather conditions.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts and loud noises.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
Travel Requirements:
- Up to 100% travel, including overnight stays, with potential for relocation based on operational needs.
