Position Overview
The First Officer plays a crucial role in supporting the Captain to ensure the safe and timely operation of the aircraft. This position involves piloting duties and other essential aircraft management responsibilities, contributing significantly to the efficiency and safety of flight operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists the Captain in thorough flight planning, incorporating comprehensive weather data and reports in strict adherence to Company policies and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).
- Verifies aircraft airworthiness according to FARs and Company standards, conducting necessary preflight inspections.
- Collaborates with the Captain to ensure flights are planned and fueled appropriately for safe execution, complying with all relevant policies and regulations.
- Operates the aircraft safely and effectively under the Captain's direction, in accordance with FARs and Company procedures.
- Maintains expert knowledge of aircraft equipment, relevant FARs, manuals, policies, and operational instructions.
- Communicates effectively with crew and passengers regarding weather conditions or other operational factors affecting the flight.
- Completes the load manifest accurately for each flight.
- Supports reliable and on-time operations by assisting the Captain in meeting all reporting, departure, and minimum turn times.
- Provides assistance and oversight for the proper handling of the aircraft, passengers, baggage, and cargo at the terminal.
- Maintains consistent and dependable attendance in line with Company policies.
- Adheres to the Company uniform dress code and presents a professional appearance at all times.
- Conducts oneself professionally while on duty, observing the Rules of Conduct outlined in Company manuals and policies.
- Actively pursues professional development and training to enhance performance and capabilities.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Company and the Captain.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must meet the minimum requirements for an Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) or Restricted ATP (RATP) certificate.
- ATP written exam completion is preferred.
- Meets the current interview and hiring minimum age and flight hour requirements established by the FAA and the Company.
Note: Candidates meeting interview minimums but not hiring minimums may be eligible for hire upon successful interview completion if hiring minimums are met within six months of the interview date, provided no certificate action, misdemeanors, or felonies have occurred since the interview, and a class date is accepted within six months of the interview date.
Preferred Experience
- Prior customer service experience, ideally within the aviation industry.

- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations, including under stressful conditions.
- Effective communication skills to present information and respond to inquiries from management, dispatch, crew, passengers, air traffic control, and the public.
- Proficiency in spoken English, including the ability to be understood during emergency situations requiring shouted commands.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address practical issues and varied situations with limited standardization.
- Capability to interpret diverse instructions presented in various formats.
- Ability to remain calm, think clearly, and react swiftly in emergency situations such as medical emergencies, decompression, evacuations, fires, security threats, turbulence, or passenger disturbances.

Physical Demands
- Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, squat, and/or crawl.
- Capable of sitting for extended periods without standing.
- Ability to lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds at various heights.
- Meets FAA visual acuity standards.
- Ability to hear verbal communications clearly in person, via telephone, and over a headset amidst aircraft and passenger noise.
- Possesses the stamina required for long duty days, sequential workdays, and adaptability to changing temperatures, climates, and weather conditions.
- Must be able to move freely, effectively, and quickly within the confined aircraft environment to perform required functions.
- Must fit comfortably in the pilot's seat or assigned jump seat with seatbelt and shoulder harness fastened without modification.
Work Environment
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Ability to withstand outdoor weather conditions on the flight line and within open air hangars for extended durations.
- Requires working in a potentially loud environment, necessitating headset usage.
- Availability to work extended duty periods on consecutive days and varied schedules, including early mornings, nights, overnights, and weekends.
Travel Requirements
- Requires up to 100% travel, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight stays.
- Ability to work extended hours with unpredictable scheduling and respond to work calls with limited notice.
- Willingness to relocate based on the Company's operational needs.
