Position Summary:

The First Officer/Second in Command (SIC) is a critical member of the flight crew, supporting the safe and efficient operation of the aircraft by assisting the Pilot in Command (PIC) in all flight duties. The SIC will work closely with the PIC to ensure all flight operations are conducted in strict adherence to company policies, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and industry best practices. This individual is responsible for diligently monitoring aircraft systems, maintaining seamless communication with flight services, and ensuring a superior flight experience for passengers. This position requires a high level of professionalism, unwavering safety awareness, and a strong dedication to customer service. This particular role involves flying a Citation XLS+ within a two-pilot flight department based in Wheeling, IL (PWK), and the flight schedule is projected to be approximately 300-350 hours per year.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Flight Operations Assistance: The SIC will provide essential support to the PIC in planning and executing all aspects of flight operations, including detailed weather analysis, precise route planning, comprehensive aircraft performance calculations, and thorough pre-flight inspections. This includes diligent adherence to applicable regulations, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the company’s Flight Operations Manual.
  • Flight Monitoring and Navigation: The SIC will rigorously monitor instrumentation and aircraft systems throughout all phases of flight. They will operate navigational and communication radios as directed by the PIC, securing necessary clearances and relaying crucial instructions as required.
  • Crew Resource Management (CRM): The SIC will maintain high levels of crew coordination and communication, offering constructive feedback to the PIC and other crew members to ensure safe and efficient flight operations. This also includes active engagement with the company’s Safety Management System (SMS) to proactively identify and mitigate potential risks.
  • Pre-flight and Post-flight Duties: The SIC will actively assist in conducting comprehensive pre-flight inspections, ensuring that the aircraft is clean, well-stocked, and fully prepared for flight. They will also verify that all necessary manuals, charts, and passenger-specific items (such as catering) are onboard prior to departure. Following each flight, they will participate in post-flight procedures and documentation.
  • Safety and Emergency Procedures: The SIC must remain vigilant for any unusual situations or deviations from standard procedures. In the event of PIC inattention or incapacitation, the SIC will be prepared to assume control of the aircraft to avert any potential hazards. They will actively participate in safety audits, development of corrective action plans, and the implementation of preventative measures.
  • Passenger Service: The SIC will actively assist in providing excellent customer service to all passengers, ensuring their utmost comfort and safety throughout the flight. They will support the PIC in addressing passenger needs and delivering a high-quality and memorable flight experience.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 500-2500 total flight hours, including at least 100 hours in multi-engine fixed-wing aircraft.
    • Turbine experience is preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Commercial Pilot Certificate with a multi-engine instrument rating or higher is required.
    • A current First-Class Medical Certificate is mandatory.
  • Skills:
    • Strong working knowledge of FAA regulations and flight operations procedures.
    • Exceptional communication and decision-making skills, demonstrating an ability to function effectively as part of a dynamic team.
    • Demonstrable proficiency in CRM and flight management systems.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must be available to report to the departure airport within 60 minutes for charter flight assignments.
    • Must be capable of lifting, pushing, or pulling over 50 pounds when handling baggage and equipment.
    • Must hold a valid passport and be willing to travel for extended periods as required by the flight schedule.
