Position Summary

Portland Community College is seeking to fill a full-time teaching position in our Aviation Science professional pilot program. This is an opportunity to help students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree while they earn their FAA pilot and Flight Instructor certificates with our flight training partner, Hillsboro Aero Academy. PCC’s Aviation Science program has also partnered with Hillsboro School District’s Oregon Aerospace Careers for Everyone (O-ACE) program, making this an exciting opportunity to make a real difference for a diverse body of students who would otherwise never have found their way into a pilot career. Instructor Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • AAS in aviation field of study or Bachelor’s or higher in non-aviation field of study
  • COMM and CFI or ATP (Commercial Pilot Certificate and Certified Flight Instructor or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate) or ;
  • Private Pilot certificate and 400 hours of flight experience, AGI, IGI and 5 years aviation management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CFI (Certified Flight Instructor)
  • AGI (Advanced Ground Instructor Certificate)
  • IGI (Instrument Ground Instructor Certificate)
  • At least 2 years aviation or other management experience
  • Part 61 Initial CFI Minimums (24 months as CFI + 40 hours ground training or 100 hours ground training in an FAA 141-approved course)
Starting Salary Expectations Initial Salary Placement will be based on related experience, per PCC's collective bargaining agreement.
Position Grade Salary Range $64562 to $103562 Annual Salary

PCC currently funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. A portion of the 6% will be diverted to The Employee Pension Stability Account as mandated by Senate Bill 1049. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for courses offered at PCC for yourself, domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age; plus partial tuition reimbursement for yourself at other accredited institutions.

* Please note: Temporary Full-Time Faculty are not eligible for Personal Leave Days, Life Insurance, Long-term Disability, or AD&D Insurance.

Paid Leave:

  • 1 day of sick leave for every 18 days worked (~10 per year)
  • 21 hours of additional personal leave per year
  • 4 paid holidays (which occur during the term you are teaching)

Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or a foreign institution having the equivalent of regional accreditation.

Instructors with credentials from other countries will have their transcripts evaluated by agencies that have good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services to establish fulfillment of this standard.
