Aviation Chief Pilot - Occidental
Occidental, a leading international energy company with operations spanning the United States, the Middle East, and North Africa, seeks a highly experienced and inspired leader to join its Aviation team as Chief Pilot. Based in Houston, Texas, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of flight operations while providing exceptional leadership, coaching, and mentorship.
Responsibilities
The Chief Pilot is a key member of the Aviation Leadership Team, entrusted with:
- Safety Culture and Leadership: Leading Occidental Aviation to maintain a culture of safety and trust, fostering a collaborative environment that prioritizes inclusion and continuous improvement.
- Team Development: Coaching team members on their professional development to maximize employee engagement and ensure all necessary resources are readily available.
- Performance Management: Implementing and managing the HR Performance Management System, including goal setting, individual coaching, and performance reviews.
- Relationship Building: Cultivating positive and collaborative relationships with regulatory agencies, industry peers, and the community.
- Project Management: Leading Aviation-related projects, overseeing development, implementation, communication, and timely deliverables.
- Emergency Preparedness: Assuming responsibility for the emergency preparedness and response of flight operations.
- Flight Manual Management: Developing, implementing, and managing the flight manual system, including Operational Bulletins, Letters of Authorizations, and Minimum Equipment Lists.
- Safety Management System: Promoting and supporting the Occidental Safety Management System (SMS), encompassing risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion.
- Aircraft Airworthiness: Ensuring all aircraft are airworthy and all required regulatory documentation is current and readily accessible.
- Crew Scheduling and Training: Efficiently scheduling pilots for training, testing, evaluation, and crew duty assignments, ensuring all necessary documents are complete and maintained.
- FAA Part 125 Operations: Actively engaging in the management of the department's FAA Part 125 operation.
- Flight Time Management: Ensuring compliance with duty and flight time limitations.
- Flight Crew Training: Developing and maintaining in-house and contracted training and testing programs for flight crewmembers.
- Flight Crew Currency: Monitoring flight crewmembers' currency as it pertains to regulatory recency of experience requirements.
- Procedures and Standards: Recommending and maintaining departmental procedures and standards for flight operations, with an emphasis on the safety of employees, passengers, and equipment.
- Tactical Planning: Preparing and implementing tactical plans as requested and/or approved by the Director of Aviation.
- Budget Management: Assisting in the preparation and administration of annual operating budgets for the respective area of operations.
- Equipment and Procedure Optimization: Recommending the incorporation of new equipment and procedures to optimize safe and effective operations.
- Talent Management: Participating in pilot selection, promotion, transfer, appraisal, salary administration, and termination.
- Industry Knowledge: Keeping abreast of industry developments and recommending new policies, equipment, and techniques to optimize safe and effective operations.
- Command Proficiency: Maintaining proficiency in and assuming command of selected types of aircraft operated by Occidental Aviation.
- Incident Management: Serving as an active member of the Aviation Incident Management Team.
- Delegation and Accountability: Effectively delegating duties during absences to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Additional Assignments: Completing any additional assignments requested by management.
- Core Values: Promoting, upholding, and remaining accountable to the core values of Occidental.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- ATP rating.
- Three years of proven aviation leadership experience.
- Five years of Business/Corporate Aviation experience.
- Operational experience in domestic and international flight operations.
- FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- English proficiency.
- Restricted FCC Radio Telephone Operators Permit.
- Valid automobile driver's license.
- Valid passport with no restrictions.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office (Teams, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Excel).
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently, execute effectively, and remain accountable for on-time deliverables.
- Excellent people and team relationship building skills with a strong collaborative focus.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated managerial courage; ability to address difficult issues with optimism and confidence.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Aviation Manager (CAM).
- Management, finance, and/or administrative experience.
- FAA Part 125 operational experience.
- A company specific aircraft type rating (Gulfstream G650, Gulfstream G280, Embraer 170LR).
- Prior project management experience.
- Safety leadership experience.
