Purpose of Position
The First Officer is entrusted with the critical responsibility of providing a superior air transportation experience, upholding a safety record second to none on each and every flight. As a visible representative of NetJets, the First Officer not only ensures technically accurate and safe transportation but also delivers an exceptional service experience for every NetJets Owner and passenger. This dynamic role requires the First Officer to effectively wear many hats, providing a concierge-level service that ranges from professional aviator to an attentive in-flight service provider. The First Officer supports the Captain in maintaining full command of the aircraft at all times and is expected to consistently uphold an exemplary professional demeanor.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The First Officer executes a comprehensive range of duties vital to superior flight operations and exceptional customer service, including but not limited to:
- Assisting in the safe operation of the aircraft from taxi, take-off, and landing of each flight, strictly adhering to FAA guidelines, Original Equipment Manufacturer's (OEM) Checklists, the NetJets Flight Operations Manual (FOM) or Aircraft Operating Manual (AOM), and Standard Operating Practices (SOPs).
- Greeting Owners and passengers pre-flight, facilitating introductions, briefing them on specific flight/trip details, verifying itineraries, providing comprehensive weather updates, conducting safety briefings, and clearly explaining any changes to the itinerary.
- Delivering essential in-flight service as required, including the responsible handling of alcohol and the meticulous service of catering.
- Properly loading and stowing all baggage on the aircraft.
- Skillfully managing and conducting flights for Owners traveling with pets and those who smoke.
- Supporting the Captain as the final authority on the aircraft with respect to all areas of operation, including ensuring full compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory guidance.
- Acting as a primary liaison for Owners and passengers, representing NetJets from their arrival at the Fixed-Base Operator (FBO) until their safe landing at the final destination and departure from the final FBO.
- Accurately communicating any maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies to the Company via the aircraft Maintenance Control Center (MCC) Controller on duty for their assigned fleet.
- Diligently completing all associated paperwork pertaining to maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies.
- Performing other duties as assigned, dependent on specific operational requirements and assignments.
Qualifications
Education
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
Certifications and Licenses
- Completion of the written FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) examination.
- A current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- An FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.
- A valid United States passport, with full authorization to work in the U.S. and travel internationally without restriction.
- A valid State Driver's License.
Experience and Flight Time Requirements (IAW FAR 61.160)
Candidates must possess an FAA ATP or Restricted ATP (R-ATP) certificate with a multi-engine rating, or meet the requirements for one, including:
- At least 21 years of age.
- Total Flight Time: 1,500 hours; OR 1,250 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate; OR 1,000 hours with military pilot qualification; OR 1,000 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate.
- Cross-Country Flight Time: 200 hours (>50 nm).
- Fixed-Wing Pilot-in-Command (PIC): 250 hours.
- Night Flying: 100 hours, or 75 hours with at least 45 night takeoffs and landings.
- Instrument Time: 75 hours (actual or simulated in-flight, excluding simulator time).
- Fixed-Wing, Multi-Engine Time: 50 hours.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAOs)
Successful First Officers at NetJets exhibit comprehensive capabilities and attributes, including:
- The ability to work varying hours, encompassing day and night shifts, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Exceptional flexibility and a demonstrated ability to rapidly adjust to fluid schedules and dynamic operational changes.
- Proficiency in managing personal rest periods to ensure optimal preparedness for flight duty at all times during their tour.
- The capacity to endure duty periods of up to fourteen hours per day for as many as eight consecutive days, often spanning multiple time zones and encountering extreme weather variations within a single trip.
- Willingness to be away from home for seven or more days and nights while on duty, staying in hotels.
- The ability to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, requiring successful completion of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) background screenings.
- Fluent English language skills, encompassing reading, writing, comprehensive understanding, and articulate speaking.
- A genuinely service-oriented disposition, maintaining a neat, well-groomed appearance, and demonstrating the ability to make a positive impression through effective and engaging interaction with passengers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly the ability to communicate clearly and concisely under pressure.
- A demonstrated ability to make quick and accurate decisions with meticulous attention to detail, both from a technical flight operations perspective and a passenger-service perspective.
- Physical capability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Comfort and ability to work around animals, including handling and care prior to, during, and after Owner flights.
- The ability to proficiently conduct flights for Owners who smoke.
Base Salary Range
$86,015 - $117,706
