Purpose of Position

The First Officer plays a critical role in delivering NetJets' signature superior air transportation experience, upholding an industry-leading safety record on every flight. As a principal representative of NetJets, the First Officer provides not only technically accurate and safe transportation but also an exceptional, concierge-level service experience for every NetJets Owner and passenger. This dynamic role demands a versatile professional aviator capable of seamlessly transitioning between expert flight operations and personalized in-flight service, all while maintaining an impeccable professional demeanor and commanding the aircraft with utmost authority and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Ensures the safe operation of the aircraft during all phases of flight, including taxi, take-off, and landing, adhering strictly to FAA guidelines, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Checklists, NetJets Flight Operations Manual (FOM), Aircraft Operating Manual (AOM), and Standard Operating Practices (SOPs).
  • Engages with Owners/passengers pre-flight by providing introductions, comprehensive flight and trip briefings, itinerary verification, weather updates, and essential safety briefings, while also communicating any itinerary adjustments.
  • Provides meticulous in-flight service, which includes the professional handling of alcohol and the expert service of catering to meet Owner preferences.
  • Efficiently loads and properly stows all baggage on the aircraft, ensuring security and accessibility.
  • Competently manages flights accommodating Owners with pets and those who smoke, ensuring a comfortable experience for all.
  • Acts as the ultimate authority on their assigned aircraft, overseeing all operational aspects and ensuring full compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory guidance.
  • Serves as a dedicated liaison for Owners/passengers, facilitating a seamless experience from their arrival at the Fixed Base Operator (FBO) until their safe departure from the final FBO at their destination.
  • Accurately communicates any maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies to the Company via the designated aircraft Maintenance Control Center (MCC) Controller for their fleet.
  • Diligently completes all associated paperwork for maintenance abnormalities or discrepancies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, consistent with the demands of the assignment.

Qualifications

Education

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Certifications and Licenses

  • Written FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Certificate.
  • Current FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.

Years of Experience

While specific years of experience are not explicitly detailed, candidates must meet the comprehensive flight time requirements outlined for an ATP or Restricted ATP (R-ATP) certificate.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements (KSAOs)

Prospective First Officers must possess an FAA ATP, Restricted ATP, or meet the stringent requirements for an FAA ATP or Restricted ATP (R-ATP) certificate with a multi-engine rating, in accordance with FAR 61.160. Specific requirements include:

  • Minimum age of 21 years.
  • Flight Time Experience:
    • 1,500 hours total flight time experience, or
    • 1,250 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate, or
    • 1,000 hours with military pilot qualification, or
    • 1,000 hours with an appropriate university R-ATP certificate.
  • 200 hours of cross-country flight time (>50 nm).
  • 250 hours of fixed-wing Pilot-in-Command (PIC) time.
  • 100 hours of night flying, or 75 hours with at least 45 night takeoffs and landings.
  • 75 hours of instrument time (actual or simulated in-flight, excluding simulator time).
  • Completion of the ATP written examination prior to the start of Indoctrination Training.
  • 50 hours of fixed-wing, multi-engine time.
  • A current FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • A valid FCC Restricted Radio Operator's Permit.
  • A valid passport.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. and ability to travel internationally without restriction.
  • Ability to work varying hours, including days, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays, demonstrating extreme flexibility and adaptability to rapid schedule changes.
  • Proficient rest management is essential to ensure readiness for flight duty at all times during assigned tours, which may last up to fourteen hours per day for up to eight days, spanning different time zones and extreme weather conditions.
  • Willingness to be away from home for seven or more days and nights, staying in hotels, while on duty.
  • Capability to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges.
  • Successful completion of Transportation Security Administration (TSA) required background screening.
  • A valid State driver's license.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • A service-oriented demeanor with a neat, well-groomed appearance, demonstrating the ability to make a positive impression and effectively interact with passengers.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, particularly under pressure.
  • Proven ability to make quick, accurate decisions while maintaining close attention to detail, both technically and from a passenger-service perspective.
  • Physical capability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Comfortable working around animals, including handling and care prior to, during, and after Owner flights.
  • Ability to conduct flights for Owners who smoke.

Compensation

Excellence in this demanding and rewarding First Officer position is compensated with a competitive base salary ranging from $86,015 - $117,706, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
