Aviation Training Lead/Pilot (CBTA Deployment Lead & Instructor Focal)
Location: Near Gatwick Airport or Manchester Airport (Hybrid/Virtual considered). Travel up to 50% expected.

A well-established organisation, a leader in providing class-leading aviation support, is seeking an experienced Aviation Training Implementation Lead. As a major OEM client, the organisation supports customer airlines globally with the critical implementation of Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT) programs, contributing significantly to enhancing aviation safety. This fixed-term contract role offers an exciting opportunity to join their global CBTA Deployment team, providing essential additional support and capacity. The team is integral to the client's Training Solutions, dedicated to developing capable and resilient commercial aviation professionals through trusted training products backed by extensive knowledge and research to increase learning efficacy and enhance aviation safety. This position is a non-flying role.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Leading a CBTA Deployment team of subject matter experts embedded within customer airlines to determine the airlines' specific needs for transitioning to the client's CBTA/EBT program.
- Leveraging prior Instructor experience to review existing pilot training needs and determine appropriate competency-based training content, objectives, and design aligned with the CBTA/EBT program framework.
- Overseeing customer airline activities related to the development, delivery, and evaluation of Competency-Based Training & Assessment (CBTA).
- Evaluating current airline training philosophies and actively supporting the airline throughout their transition journey to a CBTA/EBT program.
- Gathering essential data and providing detailed reports to inform and support proposed CBTA development activities within the airline.
- Evaluating the accuracy and quality of airline training delivery, presenting proposals to the customer, and consulting with relevant stakeholders regarding the airline's CBTA program implementation.
Required Skills and Experience:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Current or prior holding of a commercial pilot license, with a preference for experience on Boeing aircraft. This is explicitly a non-flying role.
- Ideally, a minimum of three years of experience in a management position within an airline Flight Operations or Training Department.
- An excellent understanding of regulatory requirements pertaining to pilot training programs.
- A strong comprehension of the principles underlying CBTA and EBT programs.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Demonstrable experience in successfully leading a team remotely and independently.
- An understanding of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and their applicability to pilot training.
- Extensive pilot instructional background, specifically as a Type Rating Instructor (TRI) or Type Rating Examiner (TRE), with over three years of experience.
- A proven track record of the successful delivery of complex projects across various areas, preferably within the commercial airline training sector.
- An understanding of project and program management principles and practices.
- Applications from Ex-Military Pilots are welcomed.
