Senior Instructor
The Leidos NISC IV team is seeking a dynamic Senior Instructor to join the National Airspace System Integration Support Contract (NISC IV) team. This position supports the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Eastern Service Area (ESA) NISC support team, focused on providing exceptional customer service to FAA clients receiving NISC services. The role is pivotal to the NISC IV mission, providing crucial technical instruction in fiber optics for new hire Electronics personnel, equipping them with the necessary skills for assigned Engineering Services projects.
This is a remote consulting position, allowing candidates to be located anywhere in the US. However, it requires the flexibility to travel to Lakeland, FL, or other locations as needed to conduct in-person training classes.
Primary Responsibilities:
The Senior Level Instructor will be responsible for providing comprehensive classroom instruction. This includes delivering lectures, conducting demonstrations, leading laboratory exercises, distributing handouts, addressing student questions, and administering tests. The courses will be taught in-person, potentially including both day and evening sessions. A key objective is to assist students in developing the foundational skills required to excel as entry-level fiber optic cable installers or technicians.
Key teaching areas include:
- Instructing fundamental principles of fiber optic technology, covering various fiber types, splicing techniques, network design, critical safety protocols, and the effective use of specialized tools required for connecting and activating fiber optic networks.
- Teaching essential electronic and fiber optic fundamental safety practices. This encompasses, but is not limited to, the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of cables, appropriate handling of various chemicals, cleaners, and adhesives, adhering strictly to industry standards, and ensuring proper training to prevent injury and equipment damage.
- Providing engaging and effective instruction in both classroom and laboratory settings.
Requirements:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree is required along with a minimum of 12+ years of working knowledge of FAA electrical and electronics systems. Extensive additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Power Point, as well as experience with Engineering Scheduling tools and applications. The ability to effectively use the internet for information gathering and communication is also necessary.
- Exceptional communication skills are paramount. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal forms, producing clear and concise general and technical writing. The ability to tactfully coordinate with a diverse range of project stakeholders, peers, and management levels is essential.
- A basic knowledge across multiple disciplines regarding their general requirements for typical FAA electrical and electronics systems is required.
