Longbow Crew Trainer (LCT) Instructor Operator

Position Overview

Leidos, a leader in aviation solutions, is seeking a highly qualified Longbow Crew Trainer (LCT) Instructor Operator (I/O) to support the Army National Guard's (ANG) Aviation Training Services and Operational Support (ATSOS) program. This critical role is based at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Columbia, SC. The IAS Division is responsible for delivering comprehensive flight training, simulation instruction, classroom support, and Aviation Life Support Equipment (ALSE) maintenance for current and future Army National Guard aviation platforms.

The selected Instructor Operator will leverage extensive aviation and simulation experience to train Army National Guard aviators on a variety of advanced simulator devices. This includes the UH-72A Cockpit Procedure Trainer (CPT), UH-72A Synthetic Flight Training System (SFTS), Advanced Blackhawk Flight Simulator (ABHFS), UH-60A/L SFTS, CH-47F Transportable Flight Proficiency Simulator (TFPS), and UH-60V/M Blackhawk Aviation Trainer (BAT). Responsibilities encompass instruction on all essential base and mission tasks, adherence to aircraft training manuals (ATMs), development of mission scenarios, instrument training, crew coordination, and collective operator training. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute significantly to the operational readiness of the Army National Guard.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Operate simulator devices to instruct and evaluate crewmembers on all tasks outlined in Chapter Four of the applicable aircraft training manual (ATM).
  • Present flight records and qualifications to the designated Standardization Instructor Pilot for review upon arrival.
  • Provide instruction and simulator operation services typically for 4-5 two-hour training periods per simulator device daily, adjusting to facility operating hours (typically 0700-1900 local time).
  • Support Army National Guard training schedules, which often include four 10-hour days per week, one weekend per month, or traditional 8-hour days with one weekend per month.
  • Perform administrative duties as required in conjunction with simulator operations and aviation instruction.
  • Undergo and successfully complete an annual "check ride" conducted by the Government's Standardization Pilot to maintain certification in unit-specific standard operating procedures, tactics, and standards.
  • Deliver training within the guidelines of AR 95-1 and the respective airframe ATM following successful certification.
  • Capture data via the Instructor Operator Station (IOS), provide training assessments, and contribute to After Action Reviews (AARs) per local and post-flight procedures.
  • Accurately document individual pilot simulator hour usage on DA Form 2408-12 upon completion of each flight, in accordance with DA PAM 738-751, for subsequent transcription into the device's logbook (DA Form 2408-13).
  • Report device utilization data (including no-shows, availability rates, scenario development time, and downtime) to the Quality Assurance Representative (QAR) weekly.
  • Act as a RFMSS (Range Facility Management Support System) Fire Desk Operator, scheduling all simulator training periods within 12 hours of receipt and closing out each training day within 24 hours.
  • Utilize the Instructor/Operation Manual (IOM) and associated reference data for daily simulator operations.
  • Identify and report any required corrections or shortfalls in the IOM or reference data as an addendum to the monthly performance report.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with 8-12 years of relevant experience, OR a Master's Degree with 6-10 years of relevant experience. Additional years of experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Qualified as an Instructor Pilot in the specific aircraft simulator and an Instrument Flight Examiner, OR possess a minimum of three years of documented experience as an Aviation Simulator I/O on the required aircraft device.
  • Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation or its military equivalent.
  • USAACE / AATS qualified Instructor Pilot in the airframe for which simulation duties will be performed, OR a minimum of 3 years of experience as an I/O in the assigned device.
  • Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified, OR successfully graduate from an AATS provided ABIC course within 12 months of the start date.
  • Must meet instructor qualification requirements as defined by the Aviation proponent and in accordance with TR 350-10, TR 350-70.
  • Qualified as a unit trainer, instructor pilot, or maintenance test flight examiner with demonstrated simulator operations experience.
  • USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner.
  • Must satisfactorily complete the unit aircrew training program within 3 months of employment if not an instructor pilot, in accordance with AR 95-1, 4-11e(2) and FR 350-1.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $80,600.00 - $145,700.00 annually. This range serves as a guideline and actual compensation is determined by factors including responsibilities, education, experience, skills, knowledge, internal equity, market data, and applicable agreements.
