UAS Pilot
Kraus Hamdani Aerospace (KHA), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking a qualified UAS Pilot to join its team. KHA specializes in long-endurance unmanned aerial platforms, serving a diverse range of industries. Responsibilities:
The UAS Pilot will perform functional duties independently and as part of a small team in austere environments. Responsibilities include:
- Deploying OCONUS for 3-12 month rotations, primarily within the CENTCOM AOR.
- Defining and executing UAS-based scenarios in test and training events.
- Understanding and interpreting customer requirements to ensure appropriate UAS technology utilization at technical exchange and test events.
- Interacting with both civilian organizations and military units.
Tasks:
The UAS Pilot will execute the following tasks:
- Serving as Pilot in Command.
- Conducting mission planning.
- Performing UAS launch and recovery procedures.
- Executing pre-flight, in-flight, and post-flight checks.
- Performing UAS maintenance.
- Maintaining UAS logbooks.
- Managing radio networks to support UAS operations (e.g., Silvus, TrellisWare).
- Assisting with site assessments and advising teams on UAS applications.
- Coordinating with national and international intelligence agencies.
- Developing data sharing capabilities, trend analysis, and procedures.
- Planning, coordinating, and acting as safety officer for flight operations.
- Providing comprehensive technical post-flight and log file analysis.
Requirements:
Candidates must possess:
- Experience with ArduPilot and Mission Planner using Fixed Wing Aircraft.
- Experience with hobbyist fixed wing RC and/or other UAS experience.
- The ability to operate IFR, interpret sectional charts, and understand airspace hazards, topography, and airport data.
- Proficiency in operating within controlled airspace.
- The ability to effectively communicate with ATC operations and coordinate air-to-air with other aircraft and airspace management agencies.
Qualifications:
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification (or ability to obtain).
- Amateur Radio Technician License (or ability to obtain).
Beneficial Skills and Experience:
- Manned pilot experience.
- Experience with Group 2 / Group 3 UAS fixed wing platforms.
- Experience with the ISR mission set and associated systems, including FMV payload operation.
- Knowledge of the Military Decision-Making Process (MDMP).
- Knowledge of a wide array of UAS components and UAS flight control software.
- Ability to research emerging UAS technologies, describe their advantages, and the impact to DoD capabilities.
- Ability to translate technical UAS knowledge to inform/instruct others about the technology, capabilities & limitations, and impacts to DoD capabilities.
- Experience in pre-deployment training and knowledge exchange supporting field training exercises (FTX), Validation Exercises (VALEX), and other technical exchange events.
- BA/BS with 0-3 years of experience; or AA/AS and 4 years of experience; or HS/GED and 6 years of experience.
- Active secret security clearance or ability to obtain one.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and intelligence-related automation to support analytical efforts.
