A leading aviation company is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated First Officer to join its Flight Operations team. This regular full-time position, based in Ypsilanti, MI, US, offers an exciting opportunity for a professional committed to aviation safety and operational excellence. The First Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft, upholding the highest standards of aviation safety and regulatory compliance.
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Chief Pilot, the First Officer is responsible for assisting the Captain and crew in the safe and compliant operation of the aircraft. This pivotal role requires strict adherence to all Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and company policies and procedures, utilizing effective Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles to foster a cooperative and secure flight environment during all phases of flight.
Key Responsibilities
The First Officer's primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting thorough pre-flight inspections of the aircraft and its cargo to ensure airworthiness and compliance with all safety protocols.
- Assisting the flight crew with all necessary operational paperwork, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely submission.
- Operating the aircraft with meticulous attention to detail, strictly adhering to established policies, regulations, and procedures, under the Captain's command.
- Actively identifying and reporting any unsafe conditions observed on the ground or during flight, prioritizing safety above all else.
- Performing comprehensive post-flight inspections of the aircraft upon completion of each mission.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required; post-secondary education is highly preferred.
- Previous experience operating under FAR Part 121 regulations is preferred but not mandatory.
Language Skills
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding both spoken and written English is essential for effective communication in a dynamic operational environment.
- Ability to compose routine reports and professional correspondence effectively and accurately.
Certifications and Licenses
- Possession of a valid FAA Multi-Engine Airline Transport Pilot Certificate or Restricted Multi-Engine Airline Pilot Certificate.
- A current FAA Class 1 Medical Certificate.
- An FCC Radio License.
- A current U.S. Passport with no restrictions on international travel.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Flight Time Requirements (Minimum)
- A minimum of 2500 hours of total flight time is required; 4000 hours preferred.
- A minimum of 1500 hours of turbine (jet) flight time.
- A minimum of 500 hours of Pilot-in-Command (PIC) turbine (jet) flight time.
- For Military candidates: A minimum of 1000 hours total time; turbine and PIC hour requirements may be flexible based on military flight experience.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to successfully pass a comprehensive 10-year security background check.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment Drug and Alcohol test is mandatory.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The First Officer will perform duties both inside and outside the cockpit, operating in a diverse range of meteorological conditions, including extreme cold and heat. This role requires the ability to walk up or down stairs, work in confined areas for extended periods, and lift up to 60 lbs.
