Position Overview

Jet Aviation is seeking a highly qualified Lead Captain for the Hawker 800XP based in Milwaukee, WI. This position reports to the regional chief pilot and is responsible for the safe and efficient conduct of flight assignments, with paramount emphasis on safety, security, and quality. The Lead Captain exercises pilot in command authority for all assigned flights and serves as the final authority regarding the safe operation of the aircraft.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Captain is responsible for a wide array of duties critical to flight operations and crew leadership, including:

  • Operating the aircraft safely, determining departure times and routes, and making decisions on flight cancellations based on conditions.
  • Ensuring complete compliance with all federal, local, company regulations, policies, and procedures for every flight.
  • Coordinating aircraft schedules and training with flight crew and customer service representatives, utilizing supplemental crew when necessary.
  • Liaising with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and discrepancy reporting.
  • Ensuring assigned crew members accurately submit and review flight, duty, and other required records.
  • Verifying the currency of aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts/EFBs, and delegating tasks as needed.
  • Collaborating with the Manager of Training to coordinate crew member training and check rides based on the annual training calendar.
  • Managing crew member time off and training events to maintain maximum aircraft coverage.
  • Confirming that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit.
  • Mentoring and coaching crew members to support their professional development.
  • Conducting annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
  • Attending Lead Captain meetings and assisting the Account Director as requested.
  • Participating in the hiring process for flight crew.
  • Implementing necessary changes en route to ensure flights continue under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Conducting flights in a safe and prudent manner, adhering to industry and company standards.
  • Accurately completing all required trip paperwork.
  • Ensuring clear and thorough communication with the second in command regarding all flight aspects.
  • Recording all aircraft discrepancies, reporting them immediately to the Director of Maintenance or designee, and determining deferral or repair needs based on the approved MEL.
  • Maintaining a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including emergency systems and procedures.
  • Securing the aircraft after each flight, arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed.
  • Obtaining current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized sources.
  • Filing or causing a flight plan to be filed with appropriate ATC facilities.
  • Analyzing area, enroute, and terminal charts for planned destinations and alternates.
  • Performing duties as the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under applicable security programs.
  • Conducting or assigning passenger safety briefings.
  • Imparting knowledge and skills to the second in command to prepare them for Pilot in Command duties.
  • Completing and submitting required leg manifests and End of Day (EOD) reports to operations control.
  • Taking an active role in supporting the open sharing of safety information and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
  • Immediately reporting any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
  • While duties may be delegated, responsibility remains with the Pilot in Command.
  • Performing other duties as required.
  • Representing Jet Aviation internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.

Minimum Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
  • Obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
  • Accumulate a minimum of 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight time.
  • Minimum of 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight time.
  • Minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command flight time.
  • Minimum of 1500 hours Turbojet flight time.
  • Minimum of 1500 hours Turbine flight time.
  • Minimum of 100 hours Night flight time.
  • Minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight time.
  • Possess at least 5 years of aviation experience.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules.
  • Willingness to travel worldwide extensively and without any restrictions.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands and work environment described are representative of those encountered by an employee successfully performing the essential functions of this job. The role requires frequent use of hands and fingers, standing, walking, or sitting, with occasional climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds overhead. Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust and focus, are required. The work environment includes both heavy maintenance areas and upscale customer areas. Noise levels are usually moderate but can be high when aircraft arrive/depart. Exposure to vibration is frequent, and occasional fuel fumes may be present. The employee must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions. Hangar environments may experience extreme temperatures seasonally.
