Position Summary
The Gulfstream V Captain serves as the Pilot in Command (PIC), reporting directly to the Lead Captain regarding company operating policies and procedures. The PIC exercises comprehensive authority over all assigned flights and is the final authority for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of the flight assignment, with a primary emphasis on safety and quality.
Main Responsibilities
The Captain is entrusted with critical duties essential to safe, compliant, and professional flight operations:
- Operational Authority and Safety: Exercising Pilot in Command authority, the Captain safely operates the aircraft, determines departure times and routes, and is authorized to cancel flights based on weather or other restrictive conditions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring the flight is conducted in complete compliance with all federal, local, and company regulations and policies. Instituting necessary operational changes required by en route conditions while adhering to established company procedures and rules.
- Pre-Flight Management: Obtaining the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from authorized agencies. Filing the required flight plan and thoroughly analyzing area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Aircraft Discrepancy Reporting: Accurately recording all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately reporting these to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or designee. Determining, in consultation with the DOM, if the inoperative item can be deferred using the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL).
- Crew and Security Management: Determining that the flight crew reports for duty mentally and physically fit, and in proper attire. The Captain performs the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as applicable.
- Mentorship and Training: Responsible for ensuring a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of the flight. The Captain is expected to impart knowledge and skills to the SIC to prepare them for assuming PIC duties in an emergency or for future upgrades.
- Administration: Accurately completing all trip paperwork (Leg Manifests and End of Day reports) and submitting them to operations control in accordance with current procedures.
- Safety Culture: Taking an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and immediately reporting all safety hazards, concerns, or events to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Representation: Representing Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
Minimum Requirements
Qualified candidates must demonstrate extensive flight experience and hold the following certifications and hours:
- Must possess an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Willingness and ability to travel worldwide extensively, without restriction.
- Must be able to work flexible schedules and possess a valid driver’s license.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional aviation experience.

- 4,000 hours Total Fixed Wing
- 2,000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC)
- 1,500 hours Multi-Engine Land
- 1,500 hours Turbojet
- 1,500 hours Turbine time
- 100 hours Night
- 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument

Work Environment and Benefits
The position requires the ability to work in diverse settings, including upscale customer areas and active maintenance environments, which may involve exposure to occasional high-volume noise, vibration, and temperature extremes (hot and cold). The Captain must be willing and able to work in all types of weather conditions.
