Position Summary
The Lead Captain, Gulfstream 500, serves as the ultimate authority for the safe, secure, and efficient conduct of all assigned flights, operating under the direct supervision of the regional Chief Pilot regarding company operating policies and procedures. This pivotal role emphasizes stringent adherence to the highest standards of safety, security, and quality, while exercising full Pilot-in-Command authority as the final arbiter for the safe conduct of each flight. The Lead Captain also plays a crucial role in crew coordination, mentorship, and ensuring operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements
- Possession of an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with an appropriate Aircraft Type Rating.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- A minimum of 4000 hours Total Fixed Wing flight experience.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Multi-Engine Land flight experience.
- A minimum of 2000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) flight experience.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbojet flight experience.
- A minimum of 1500 hours Turbine time.
- A minimum of 100 hours Night flight experience.
- A minimum of 75 hours Actual or Simulated Instrument flight experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, accommodating varying operational demands.
- Willingness to travel worldwide extensively and without any restrictions.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Main Responsibilities
The Lead Captain will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following key duties:
- Flight Operations & Safety:
- Safely operate the aircraft, determining optimal departure times and routes, and making informed decisions to cancel flights based on weather or other conditions.
- Ensure all flights are conducted in complete compliance with federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Perform the functions of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) as required by applicable security programs.
- Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMs from authorized agencies.
- File or ensure the filing of flight plans with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyze area, enroute, and terminal charts for the airport of intended landing and alternates.
- Conduct required passenger safety briefings or delegate this duty to the Second-in-Command.
- Institute all necessary changes as required by en route conditions to ensure the flight continues under appropriate company policies, procedures, and rules.
- Responsible for conducting the flight in a safe and prudent manner in accordance with industry and company standards.
- Crew Management & Development:
- Coordinate aircraft schedules and training activities with the flight crew and Customer Service Representatives (CSR), utilizing supplemental crew as needed.
- Ensure assigned crew members submit and review all required flight and duty records.
- Coordinate crew member training and check rides with the Manager of Training, based on the annual training calendar.
- Coordinate time off and training events with crew members while maintaining maximum aircraft coverage.
- Determine that the flight crew reports for duty in proper attire and is mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Mentor and coach crew members to support their professional development.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for assigned crew members.
- Assist in the hiring process for flight crew members.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the Second-in-Command to prepare them for potential Pilot-in-Command duties in an emergency or during an upgrade.
- Ensure a thorough and complete understanding with the Second-in-Command regarding all aspects of flight.
- Aircraft Maintenance & Logistics:
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager regarding aircraft servicing, cleaning, and other logistical needs.
- Record all aircraft discrepancies as they occur on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately report these discrepancies to the Director of Maintenance (DOM) or their designee.
- Refer to the approved Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and, as directed by the DOM or designee, determine if inoperative items can be deferred or require repair, completing the aircraft discrepancy log as required.
- Maintain a complete working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage if deemed necessary or instructed by company management.
- Ensure aircraft manuals, Jeppesen charts, and Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are current, delegating as needed.
- Administrative & Reporting:
- Accurately complete all trip paperwork in accordance with current procedures.
- Complete and send the leg manifest to operations control prior to each departure.
- Complete and send the End of Day (EOD) report to operations control upon completion of each flight day.
- Attend Lead Captain meetings.
- Assist the Account Director as requested.
- Safety Culture & Representation:
- Take an active role in supporting the open sharing of information on all safety issues and reporting all safety hazards and concerns.
- Make an immediate report of any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- Represent Jet Aviation as one company, both internally and externally, with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
- The Pilot-in-Command may delegate these duties but retains full responsibility for them. Other duties may be required as needed.

The hangar environment may experience extreme hot and cold temperatures during certain seasons of the year. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
