Pilot in Command Job Description

Position Summary:
The Pilot in Command reports directly to the Lead Captain and is responsible for the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all assigned flight assignments. This role places a strong emphasis on safety, security, and the highest quality of service. The Pilot in Command exercises ultimate authority over all flights, ensuring their safe and successful completion.
Minimum Requirements:
- Possess a valid Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with the required Aircraft Type Rating.
- Hold and maintain an FAA First Class Medical Certificate.
- Minimum 4,000 hours of total fixed-wing flight time.
- Minimum 1,500 hours of multi-engine land experience.
- Minimum 2,000 hours as Pilot in Command.
- Minimum 1,500 hours of turbojet flight time.
- Minimum 1,500 hours of turbine experience.
- Minimum 100 hours of night flight experience.
- Minimum 75 hours of actual or simulated instrument flight experience.
- A minimum of 5 years of aviation experience.
- Ability to work flexible schedules.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively worldwide without restrictions.
- Possess a valid driver's license.
Main Responsibilities:
- Safely operate the aircraft, determine departure times and routes, and, when necessary, cancel flights based on weather or other factors.
- Ensure strict adherence to all federal, local, and company regulations, policies, and procedures during all flights.
- Implement necessary adjustments en route to maintain compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable rules.
- Conduct flights with utmost safety and prudence, adhering to industry and company standards.
- Accurately complete all trip paperwork according to established procedures.
- Ensure a thorough and complete understanding with the Second in Command regarding all aspects of the flight.
- Record all aircraft discrepancies on the aircraft discrepancy log and immediately report them to the Director of Maintenance or their designee.
- Determine, based on the approved MEL and directives from the DOM or their designee, whether inoperative items can be deferred or require repair.
- Verify that all flight crew members report for duty in proper attire and are mentally and physically fit for duty.
- Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of all aircraft systems authorized for operation, including all emergency systems and procedures.
- Secure the aircraft after each flight, including arranging hangar storage when deemed necessary or as instructed by company management.
- Obtain the most current weather reports, forecasts, and NOTAMS from a FAA flight service station or authorized agency.
- File or ensure the filing of flight plans with the FAA or an ICAO state ATC facility.
- Analyze area, en route, and terminal charts for the intended landing airport and alternates.
- Perform the duties of the In TSA Flight Security Coordinator (ISC) under the provisions of the twelve five standard security program or private charter standard security program, as applicable.
- Conduct the required passenger safety briefings or assign this duty to the Second in Command.
- Impart knowledge and skills to the Second in Command to prepare them for assuming the duties of Pilot in Command in an emergency or during their upgrade to Pilot in Command in that aircraft.
- Complete and submit the leg manifest to Operations Control prior to each departure.
- Complete and submit the End of Day (EOD) report to Operations Control upon the completion of each flight day.
- Actively support the open sharing of information on all safety issues and report all safety hazards and concerns.
- Immediately report any hazardous action, conduct, or event to the Chief Pilot and Director of Safety.
- The Pilot in Command may delegate tasks but remains ultimately responsible for them.
- May be required to perform other duties as needed.
- Represent Jet Aviation as one company internally and externally with industry groups, regulatory bodies, and the General Dynamics network.
