Product Designer I - Pilot Experience
Aviation industry leader is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Product Designer I to join their team in Olathe, Kansas. This full-time, core hours position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of cutting-edge aviation products, including integrated flight decks and advanced cockpit designs.
The Product Designer I will apply fundamental usability and user-centered design principles to guide software user interface development. They will research, design, and prototype new user experiences, communicating their work through mockups, storyboards, and visual presentations. The individual will also contribute to user interface testing, conduct usability studies, and collaborate with engineering and product management teams to deliver exceptional solutions. Maintaining design consistency across product lines and staying current on industry trends are also crucial responsibilities.
Essential Functions:
- Researches, designs, and prototypes new user experiences for product features.
- Communicates research and designs via mockups, storyboards, visual presentations, and written documentation.
- Develops creative, simple, and highly usable solutions for human-computer interaction.
- Assists with user interface testing and conducts usability tests to gather feedback on designs.
- Collaborates with engineering and product managers to achieve superior results.
- Ensures user interface design and behavioral consistency across product lines.
- Remains informed on user interface design trends and competitor design practices.
- Stays up-to-date with new prototyping, presentation, and computer graphics techniques and software.
- Applies design standards to implement basic designs and employs engineering tools as necessary.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or a related field with a user-centered design focus.
- Strong academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher).
- Proven proficiency in creating various prototypes and mock-ups using tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Excellent presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated understanding of sound user interface design principles (consistency, simplicity, usability).
Desired Qualifications:
- Outstanding academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher).
- Experience in graphics production, graphics editing, motion graphics, interactive design, and/or videography.
- Software proficiency in Figma, Blender, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or After Effects.
- Pilot Certificate (Private Pilot license, Instrument rating, etc.).
