Senior Pilot Experience Product Designer – Olathe, Kansas
Garmin International seeks a highly skilled and experienced Senior Pilot Experience Product Designer to join our team in Olathe, Kansas. This full-time position requires a deep understanding of user-centered design principles and their application to the development of cutting-edge aviation software and hardware. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the user interface for integrated flight decks and state-of-the-art cockpit designs.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Lead or contribute to design direction for projects and sub-projects, guiding the team toward innovative and user-friendly solutions.
- Conduct comprehensive user research, including interviews and observational studies, to inform design decisions and validate concepts.
- Develop interactive prototypes and facilitate user testing to iterate and optimize designs.
- Take ownership of key product features, ensuring their alignment with user needs and overall product strategy.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of user research methodologies and apply these to generate and refine designs.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to define and refine the user experience.
- Remain current on the latest prototyping, presentation, and computer graphics techniques and software.
- Adhere to and champion established design standards and procedures.
- Demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and prioritize tasks effectively to deliver solutions within deadlines.
- Present design concepts and rationale clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, including internal teams and external clients.
- Independently develop robust design solutions and provide effective problem-solving across a range of challenges.
- Mentor junior User Experience Designers, fostering their professional growth and development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or a related field with a demonstrable focus on user-centered design principles. A minimum of one year of relevant work experience is required; alternatively, five years of equivalent experience is acceptable.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher is preferred.
- Proficiency in a variety of design tools is essential.
- Exceptional presentation, communication, and organizational skills are required.
- Demonstrated understanding and application of effective user interface design principles (consistency, simplicity, usability).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Experience in graphics production, graphics editing, motion graphics, interactive design, and/or videography.
- Proficiency in design software such as Figma, Blender, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or After Effects.
- Possession of a Pilot Certificate (Private Pilot License, Instrument Rating, etc.) is highly desirable.
