Senior Pilot Experience Product Designer
Garmin International, located in Olathe, Kansas, seeks a full-time Senior Pilot Experience Product Designer. This role focuses on applying fundamental usability and user-centered design principles to guide software user interface development for aviation products, including integrated flight decks and state-of-the-art cockpit designs. Core business hours apply, and this is a regular full-time position.
Essential Functions:
- Potentially serves as a design lead, guiding design direction for a small project or sub-project.
- Conducts user interviews and observational research, interpreting research data to create viable solutions.
- Develops interactive prototypes and conducts user tests to improve and validate designs.
- Assumes ownership of key features within a product line.
- Maintains current knowledge of user research methods and conducts effective research to generate and improve designs.
- Collaborates with partners and potential partners to define the user experience.
- Stays informed about new prototyping, presentation, or computer graphics techniques and software.
- Demonstrates proficient use of design standards and procedures.
- Exhibits a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities when developing timely solutions.
- Presents design ideas to diverse disciplines and customers.
- Independently produces robust design solutions and provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems.
- Mentors less experienced User Experience Designers.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, or a related field with a curriculum emphasizing user-centered design principles AND a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience OR a minimum of 5 years of equivalent combination of education and relevant experience performing the essential functions of a Product Designer.
- Excellent academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher).
- Proficiency in using a variety of design tools.
- Exceptional presentation, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of effective user interface design principles (consistency, simplicity, usability).
Desired Qualifications:
- Outstanding academic record (cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher).
- Experience in graphics production, graphics editing technology, motion graphics, interactive design, and/or videography.
- Proficiency in software such as Figma, Blender, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or After Effects.
- Possession of a Pilot Certificate (Private Pilot license, Instrument rating, etc.).
