The Role
Gama Aviation is expanding its Approved Training Organisation (ATO) capabilities and is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Type Rating Instructor (TRI) / Synthetic Flight Instructor (SFI) for the B200 King Air aircraft. The successful candidate will join the existing team of TRI/SFIs and Type Rating Examiner (TRE)/Synthetic Flight Examiner (SFE) professionals, focusing on recurrent training related to the B200 aircraft under the Air Operator Certificate (AOC), in strict accordance with the Operations Manual Part D (OMD).
The company operates a significant fleet of B200 aircraft on its AOC, supported by over 40 flight crew members. All crew undergo rigorous recurrent training and checking in line with ORO.FC.230 regulations. This includes an annual combined Proficiency Check (PC) / Operator Proficiency Check (OPC) and an additional 6-monthly OPC. As all Gama B200 aircraft are operated Multi-Pilot (MP), all recurrent training and checking is routinely conducted as a constituted crew within a certified Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD), adhering to UK CAA regulations.
The TRI/SFI will play a key role in assisting with ATO B200 Type Rating courses for new crew members. All training is standardised, following the ATO’s Type Rating course and OMD Recurrent Training and Checking procedures for the B200 (B250) Aircraft. Within the first year, the successful candidate will be presented with the opportunity for company sponsorship to achieve the TRE/SFE qualification, with associated responsibilities becoming part of the job scope upon successful completion.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct TRI (FFS) / SFI duties maintaining the UK CAA FCL ‘Assessment of Competency’.
- Deliver recurrent training (ORO.FC.230), initial Type Training, and renewal training (Part.FCL).
- Provide recurrent training specifically for AOC Multi-Pilot operations.
- Demonstrate comprehensive capability and knowledge of OMD and OMB procedures.
- Train and assess crew adherence to Operators’ Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for MP operations.
- Deliver B200 Technical Subject Ground School training.
- Operate FSTD Instructor Operating Station (IOS) functions to a high standard.
- Evaluate and revise Training Forms used for AOC and ATO training.
- Maintain extensive regulatory knowledge of UK CAA Part FCL Licence and Ratings requirements.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- Must hold or have previously held a Part FCL Instructor qualification.
- Possess a current UK CAA Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) with a minimum of 1500 hours total flight time.
- Ideally holds a B200 King Air Type Rating with over 500 hours of experience suitable for Type Training.
- Demonstrates a conscientious approach to upholding aviation standards.
- Possesses the ability to teach effectively in individual and classroom environments.
- Prior EFIS (Collins Pro-line) experience or equivalent is advantageous but not essential.
- Is self-motivated and adopts a self-sufficient attitude.
- Exhibits excellent communication and teaching skills.
- Is able to work abroad at Gama Aviation’s approved ATO FSTD site in Norway.
- Is available for positioning to Norway for typically short periods to perform training duties according to the schedule.
- Comprehensive and practical knowledge of applicable aviation regulation is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 is advantageous.
- Previous experience operating FSTDs is advantageous.
- Possesses sound problem-solving, time management, and organisational skills.
Location and Working Hours
The base location is flexible, with the role being based at any UK Gama Aviation facility. Frequent travel is required to the simulator in Oslo, Norway. This is a Full-Time position, typically 40 hours per week, requiring flexibility dependent on the training schedule.
