Purpose of Position
The Flight Instructor is responsible for delivering exceptional ground and simulator flight instruction. This role requires adherence to all applicable aviation regulations and strict compliance with FlightSafety Training principles and methodologies to ensure the highest standards of professional aviation education.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Conducts pilot ground and simulator training sessions for clients participating in core, specialty, or enrichment training courses.
- Develops and prepares relevant training materials designed to support effective training delivery and meet specific client needs, aligning with the applicable curriculum requirements.
- Evaluates and measures trainee progress throughout the course, making recommendations for qualification or identifying the need for additional training based on performance.
- Maintains accurate and detailed training records for each client, documenting their progress and supporting their success in achieving requested training objectives.
- Identifies potential client training issues proactively and seeks appropriate assistance or guidance before training execution.
- Ensures personal instructor qualifications are maintained in strict accordance with all prevailing regulatory requirements.
Minimum Experience
- Must be able and willing to participate fully in FlightSafety’s DOT Drug and Alcohol testing program.
- Possession of an unrestricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate, or an Airline Transport Pilot License issued by an ICAO member state.
- If an ATP is not held, the candidate must meet the requirements of 14 CFR part 61.153 and 14 CFR part 61.64 without a Supervised Operating Experience (SOE) limitation.
- A minimum of one unrestricted Pilot in Command (PIC) type rating is required.
- Preferred experience includes FAR Part 135, FAR Part 121, or military training background.
- A minimum of 2,500 hours of total flight time is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated knowledge of aviation safety standards and established best practices.
- Familiarity with common aviation regulations relevant to training and operations.
- Proven ability to effectively manage classroom settings and deliver instruction.
- Possesses foundational facilitation skills to guide group learning.
- Exhibits foundational customer service skills to interact professionally with clients.
- Demonstrates the capacity to be coachable and receptive to feedback to support professional development.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
The role regularly requires the use of hands for finger manipulation, handling tools or controls, reaching with hands and arms, and communicating through speech and hearing. Occasional requirements may include standing, walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, tasting, or smelling.
Specific physical capabilities required include:
- Ability to reach, exert pressure, and manipulate rudder or anti-torque controls with both feet.
- Ability to reach and manipulate various controls within the simulator device from the instructor's chair.
- Ability to safely enter and exit the simulator device via the provided ramp.
- Ability to move efficiently between the instructor station, screen, and podium while instructing in a classroom environment.
- Capability to exit a malfunctioned simulator device while it is in a severely pitched attitude.
Specific vision abilities necessary for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The position requires the employee to regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment frequently involves proximity to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure may include working in high, precarious locations, outside weather conditions, wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation, and vibration.
