Position Summary
The Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Technician 2 is responsible for accurately performing scheduled maintenance, meticulous inspections, and precise repairs on a diverse fleet of aircraft. This role requires strict adherence to all Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and industry standards, ensuring the airworthiness and operational readiness of all assigned aircraft.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The core responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conducting routine and unscheduled aircraft maintenance, ensuring all tasks are performed in accordance with FAA regulations, maintenance manuals, and company specifications.
- Performing comprehensive pre-flight inspections and post-maintenance checks to verify the proper functioning of all mechanical and operating systems before flight.
- Systematically troubleshooting, repairing, and installing aircraft components and parts by meticulously analyzing blueprints, drawings, work orders, and sketches. Identifying and rectifying discrepancies through established departmental channels.
- Inspecting and examining various aircraft components, including engines, wings, propellers, and tails, to identify defects such as cracks, corrosion, or wear.
- Servicing and replacing hoses and lubricating joints as required, ensuring optimal system performance.
- Installing new or replacement parts to address defects, recalls, or enhance aircraft performance, executing these tasks efficiently and to precise specifications.
- Performing sheet metal repairs as necessary to maintain structural integrity.
- Estimating work time and materials accurately for assigned tasks, contributing to effective project management.
- Identifying and resolving complex mechanical problems based on visual inspections or reports from flight crew.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and related reports concerning parts or services.
- Performing other related duties as assigned to support operational needs.
Skills and Abilities
- Thorough understanding of aircraft parts, systems, and mechanics, coupled with comprehensive knowledge of tools and testing methods used in aircraft maintenance.
- Exceptional ability to interpret, comprehend, and strictly adhere to technical manual instructions for resolving complex mechanical issues.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and strong mechanical aptitude, ensuring superior and precise workmanship.
- Proficiency in computer aptitude and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or related software for record-keeping and reporting.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills to identify and resolve complex aircraft mechanical issues efficiently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills necessary for discussing equipment malfunctions, completing reports, and collaborating effectively with team members and flight crew.
- Proven ability to work independently as a self-starter with strong initiative, highly motivated and capable of performing under pressure with accuracy, efficiency, and confidence.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks effectively, and manage time efficiently in a continuous fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility and availability to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, to meet operational demands.
- Key cognitive abilities include memorization, reasoning, adept quick learning, problem identification, multitasking, detail orientation, and adaptability.
Technical Proficiencies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiarity with Corridor and CAMP maintenance tracking systems.
- Comprehensive understanding of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR).
- Scissor Lift Certified (Preferred).
- Forklift Certified (Preferred).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The role typically operates in outdoor and industrial/hangar environments. Employees may experience exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, and loud noise levels, including airplane machinery and jet engines. Work may involve tight, cramped spaces within business aircraft interiors and potential exposure to a variety of extreme weather conditions.
Physical demands include the ability to see and hear clearly; read, comprehend, and speak English; climb, twist, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl; move in tight quarters; sit, stand, and walk for extended periods. Manual dexterity and physical strength are essential for operating tools and making adjustments and repairs. The technician must possess visual acuity to inspect equipment for defects and auditory acuity to test sounds and identify aircraft functioning levels. The ability to perform work on scaffolding or ladders and regularly lift, move, pull, and push objects weighing up to 75 pounds is required.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Possession of a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License.
- Extensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical systems and their interactions.
- Thorough knowledge of current FAA regulations, Inspection Procedure Manuals (IPM), and Air Transport Association (ATA) codes.
- Must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States and provide two forms of Federal Identification.
- Successful completion of a comprehensive background check prior to employment, including verification of previous employment, education, criminal history, and other relevant information.
- This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive role under FAA regulations and is subject to pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with FAA guidelines.
Preferred Education and Experience
- 4-7 years of hands-on aircraft maintenance experience.
- Prior experience utilizing Corridor maintenance tracking software.
- Candidates with business corporate jet experience will be given priority consideration.

- Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
- Dress Code: A well-groomed appearance and adherence to department dress code standards are required.
- Travel: Some travel, less than 10%, may be required.
