Role Responsibilities

As a First Officer with Etihad Airways, the individual will serve as a crucial member of the flight deck crew. Responsibilities include supporting the Captain in ensuring the utmost safety, security, and efficiency of every flight. A high degree of professionalism, technical proficiency, and teamwork is expected, alongside the development of leadership capabilities for future command roles. Key duties encompass:

  • Assisting the Captain in all phases of flight preparation, navigation, and operation, adhering strictly to Etihad’s operating procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Performing continuous and independent monitoring of aircraft position, terrain, and weather conditions to ensure safe navigation at all times.
  • Providing clear, effective communication, advice, and support to the Captain to facilitate informed and safe decision-making.
  • Maintaining elevated standards of discipline, conduct, and personal presentation, representing Etihad Airways professionally in all environments.
  • Assuming command responsibilities in the event of Captain incapacitation, in accordance with rank and company protocols.

The position of Cargo First Officer at Etihad Airways provides an attractive, tax-free annual remuneration package that reflects both performance and the specific demands of cargo operations. This includes:

  • A competitive base salary of AED 216,000 (USD 58,815) per annum.

  • An annual incentive of up to AED 16,500 (USD 4,492), based on a 175-day working pattern.

Candidate Profile & Eligibility

To be considered for the role of Freighter First Officer, candidates must satisfy specific flight hour and aircraft experience criteria, in addition to general eligibility requirements.

Required Experience Criteria:

Candidates must meet either Criteria A or Criteria B:

Criteria A:

  • Minimum of 2,500 hours of total flying time.
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours on multi-crew, glass-cockpit aircraft. (A glass cockpit is defined as an aircraft equipped with a Flight Management System (FMS) integrated with an Automatic Pilot Flight Director System (APFDS).)
  • Minimum of 1,000 hours on any Boeing aircraft.

Criteria B:

  • Minimum of 3,000 hours of total flying time.
  • Minimum of 2,000 hours on Boeing aircraft.

General Eligibility Requirements:

  • Currently flying on a Boeing aircraft, or have flown one within the last 12 months.
  • Possess a valid Boeing aircraft type rating with at least 2 months remaining at the intended date of joining.
  • Hold an unrestricted ATPL or a frozen ATPL (CPL) issued by an ICAO member state. A frozen ATPL must include results of the ATPL Theoretical Knowledge Exam and an Integrated ATPL Course Completion Certificate.
  • Hold an unrestricted, current Class 1 medical certificate.
  • Be under 50 years of age on the date of joining.
  • Demonstrate English Language Proficiency at Level 4 or above (both written and verbal).
