A&P Final Assembly/Flight Line Mechanic
A skilled and experienced A&P Final Assembly/Flight Line Mechanic is sought to join the team. This critical role involves performing final installations, adjustments, and testing procedures on helicopters as they transition to the flight line for the final stages of manufacturing, flight test, and sign-off. The Mechanic reports to the Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute final installations, adjustments, and testing procedures on helicopters on the flight line.
- Support flight testing activities, including blade tracking and adjusting various helicopter mechanisms (e.g., fuel flows) until the aircraft achieves FAA approval and sign-off.
- Perform flight line repair and overhaul work as required to support customer service needs.
- Legally sign off on completed work where appropriate, potentially under FAR 65.103.
- Examine parts and assemblies for defects and conformance to specifications and blueprints, reporting non-conformances as necessary.
- Inspect defective machinery and equipment in the Assembly area to diagnose malfunctions and report repair needs.
- Install and adjust complex assemblies such as correlator, main rotor, tail rotor, drive belt pulleys, exhaust manifolds, cyclic stick linkages, heater hoses, fuel lines, and belt tension assemblies.
- Utilize power and hand tools to perform installations precisely according to blueprints and specifications.
- Train and serve as a consultation resource for other workers.
- Strictly observe all safety regulations and procedures.
- Maintain required records accurately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- An Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License is preferred.
- Extensive experience and demonstrated expertise in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of helicopters.
- Minimum of two years of experience as an Aircraft Mechanic.
- Extensive Flight Line experience is essential; military aviation experience is a plus.
- Certification as a Repairman per FAR 65.103 for Repair Station Certification (specific to the employer, if applicable) is highly desirable.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
- Sophisticated knowledge of all operations and procedures within Assembly and Flight Line departments.
- Ability to set up, operate, and adjust all relevant machines and equipment in the Assembly Department.
- Advanced knowledge of all flight line assembly installations.
- High-level mechanical skills with the ability to install and adjust all flight line assemblies accurately.
- Proficiency in using all required hand tools and portable power tools.
- Demonstrated ability to track blades effectively.
- Ability to keep required records and documentation.
- Competence in using shop mathematics.
- Ability to perform precision work with hands.
- Skilled in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges.
- Sophisticated knowledge of the theory of helicopter flight and involved mechanical theories.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot problems independently.
- Capable of working effectively with minimal supervision.
- Must meet personal tool requirements.
