A&P Final Assembly/Flight Line Mechanic
The A&P Final Assembly/Flight Line Mechanic performs crucial functions during the final manufacturing stages of helicopters. This position is instrumental in preparing aircraft for flight test and ensuring they meet rigorous airworthiness standards before final sign-off. The Mechanic reports to the Director of Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performs final installations, adjustments, and testing procedures as helicopters transition to the flight line for the final stage of the manufacturing process, flight testing, blade tracking, and sign-off.
- Collaborates with pilots on flight line activities including blade tracking and performs necessary adjustments on blades and various helicopter mechanisms.
- Adjusts fuel flows and other systems as required until the helicopter receives FAA approval and final sign-off.
- Executes flight line repair and overhaul work for customer service as assigned.
- Legally signs off on completed work as appropriate, potentially under FAR 65.103 where applicable.
- Examines parts and assemblies for defects and verifies conformance to specifications and blueprints, reporting non-conformances to appropriate parties.
- Identifies the cause of malfunction in defective machinery and equipment within the Assembly area and reports necessary repairs to the Supervisor.
- Installs and adjusts complex assemblies such as correlator assemblies, main rotor assemblies, tail rotor assemblies, drive belt pulleys, exhaust manifolds, control linkages, heater hoses and fittings, and belt tension assemblies, connecting fuel lines, etc.
- Utilizes power and hand tools to perform all installations in strict accordance with blueprints and specifications.
- Trains other workers and serves as a consultation resource providing technical guidance.
- Strictly observes all safety regulations and procedures.
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
- Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) License (preferred).
- Extensive experience and demonstrated expertise in the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of helicopters.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience as an Aircraft Mechanic.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications accurately.
- Certification as a Repairman per FAR 65.103 for Repair Station Certification.
- Extensive Flight Line experience (military aviation experience is a plus).
- Comprehensive knowledge of all operations and procedures within both the Assembly Department and the Flight Line.
- Ability to set up, operate, and adjust all necessary machines and equipment in the Assembly Department.
- Sophisticated knowledge of flight line assembly installations and the associated adjustment procedures.
- High-level mechanical skills and the ability to successfully install and adjust all flight line assemblies.
- Proficiency in using all required hand tools and portable power tools.
- Demonstrated ability to track blades effectively.
- Competence in maintaining required records meticulously.
- Ability to apply shop mathematics to job tasks.
- Exceptional ability to perform precision work with hands.
- Skill in using precision measurement tools including micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges.
- Sophisticated knowledge of the theory of helicopter flight and the relevant mechanical theories involved.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, capable of resolving problems independently.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision.
