The ideal candidate possesses an Australian Air Transport Pilot Licence or an Australian Commercial Pilot Licence with successful completion of all Australian ATPL Theory subjects. International applicants are advised to consult the Civil Aviation Safety Authority website for licence information. Furthermore, the applicant should demonstrate English Language Proficiency at Level 6 on their license.

The successful applicant must hold current endorsements for Instrument Approach 2D and 3D on a valid Australian Instrument Rating – Multi Engine Aeroplane. New Zealand applicants must convert their license and ratings to an Australian License and Rating before applying. A total aeronautical experience of 700 hours or greater is required.

The position mandates a minimum of 250 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) experience on a multi-engine aeroplane, excluding Instrument Competency Under Supervision (ICUS) and simulator time; or 250 hours PIC on a single engine turbine aircraft exceeding 3,400kg Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW), excluding ICUS and simulator time; or 250 hours as a co-pilot in a multi-engine turbine, multi-crew aircraft, excluding ICUS and simulator time.

A current CASA Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate is mandatory. The candidate must be willing and able to successfully complete a Drug and Alcohol Test. They must also be able to obtain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). (Please note that this requires extensive background and security checks, at the applicant's expense, as mandated by the Commonwealth Air Navigation Act.) Finally, the applicant must hold a current passport with unrestricted access to all Qantas ports of call, with a minimum of 12 months validity remaining.
