Draken Europe are recruiting for a Senior Base Pilot to be responsible for the supervision and delivery of safe flight operations across the span of contract activities. The Senior Base Pilot is the senior company representative at the assigned base. As such they will manage the delivery of the contract and represent the company in (non-commercial) discussion with the customer. The position is also responsible for the admin, welfare and discipline of the line pilots at the respective base.
The position is based in Northern Ireland working on behalf of a new special mission customer. Suitable candidates will be already based in Northern Ireland or relocatable (relocation support may be provided if applicable). The position reports into the Director Flight Operations (DFO) and will have Captain and First Officer Aircrew as direct reports.
As a Senior Base Pilot your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Currently hold or eligible to obtain UK DV security clearance.

Hold a valid Professional Pilot’s Licence.

Maintain command status on the BN Islander BN-2T

Suitably experienced in the management of aircrew.

Effective control of overhead budget.
-
As part of the Flight Operations management team, accept the joint and several responsibilities associated with delivering against the safety, quality and business objectives.

Highly desirable: Delivery of contracted Flight Operations.
-
Flight Operations management practices and principles.
-
Flight operations in the civil environment.
-
Flight operations in military or government aviation – desirable.
-
General business management principles including budget setting and control.
-
Strong domain knowledge of customer operational requirements and customer platform capabilities.
As a Senior Base Pilot your main responsibilities will involve:

Comply with and support internal Flight Ops audit/CAA audit programmes and meet the statutory time to assess, comprehensively address and close out NCRs.

Facilitate an open and honest reporting culture within the Islander fleet.
-
Ensure that the aircrew on the Islander fleet are familiar with and comply with all relevant Company and national legislative requirements.
-
Ensure that records are maintained in accordance with regulations and Company operations manuals.
-
Maintain detailed oversight for the currency/recency requirements stipulated for those pilots under your direct control.
-
Ensure compliance with Draken SHE technical standards within area of responsibility.
-
Ensure that operational performance meets or exceeds customer requirements.
-
Maintain positive working relationships with key customers.
-
Support commercial and bid activity with new and existing customers.
-
Report operational, disciplinary and other related performance problems to the DFO.
-
Establish a mechanism for safety and supervisory feedback from senior Islander pilots.
-
Manage the financial performance within span of control and the agreed overhead budgets.
-
Manage the welfare, development and performance of subordinates within Flight Operations through regular reviews and the PDR process.

Enable a strong succession plan through recruitment of appropriately qualified individuals.

Represent the DFO and Company interests at the operating base and in various forums as directed.

Exercise the duties and responsibilities of a line captain and line training captain.
-
Monitor and maintain the currency of publications, documents etc at the base and in aircraft libraries.

Sponsor for Operations Manual Part B Islander and/or the Islander SOPs.

Liaise with Ground Operations, Engineering and other key Company departments/personnel to enable the highest standard of operational output.

Liaise with Ground Operations (remote) to ensure appropriate rostering of all pilots to promote quality of life.

Assign duties and responsibilities to line crews to enable the range of administrative support tasks to be fulfilled.

Monitor the conduct and appearance of line crews.
-
Liaise with airport authority, agencies and airport users as directed.
-
Operate as an Islander Line Captain.
