The role
As a Scottish Touring Pilot, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. Our fleet of 25 helicopters from bases across England, Wales and Scotland has been providing dedicated air ambulance and police support for more than 20 years. BMCSO constantly invests in new aircraft, equipment and training to ensure the consistent capability to deliver safe, dependable operational excellence at all times.

Day-to-day, you’ll be required to maintain the highest standards of professional expertise and safety throughout the conduct of this challenging role.

  • The position as a Touring Pilot offers varied and challenging flying across a range of disciplines including HEMS, Police and NVIS operations.

This role is full time, 42.5 hours per week and is based in Cheltenham.


Essential experience of the Scottish Touring Pilot:

  • 1000 hours Pilot in Command/ Captain of aircraft of which 500 hours is Pilot in Command on twin turbine helicopters; or
  • 1000 hours as co-pilot in HEMS/Police operations of which 500 hours is as Pilot in Command Under Supervision and 100 hours pilot in command of twin turbine helicopters.
  • 2000 hours minimum total helicopter experience.
  • 500 hours operating experience in twin turbine helicopters in an operational environment similar to the intended operation.
  • 20 hours VFR at night as pilot in command.


Qualifications for the Scottish Touring Pilot:

  • Hold a UK ATPL(H) or CPL(H) + IR.
  • Class 1 Medical.
  • Driving License.

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) security clearance for this role.
