Minimum Requirements

Prospective First Officers must meet the following essential criteria to be considered for this prestigious Hong Kong-based role:

  • Possession of an ICAO Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) or a Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with a Multi Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) and all same state ATPL examination credits. All licences and credits must have been obtained without exemption or conversion.
  • A valid Class 1 Medical Certificate.
  • ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 4 or above.
  • A minimum total flying time of 1,500 hours (3,000 hours preferred), including:
    • At least 500 hours as Pilot in Command (P1), of which a maximum of 250 hours may be P1 Under Supervision (P1 U/S).
  • Additionally, applicants must fulfill one of the following flight experience criteria:
  • A) A minimum of 500 hours on civil aircraft certified for multi-crew operations with a Maximum Take-Off Weight (MTOW) exceeding 45,000 kg.
  • OR
  • B) A minimum of 1,500 hours on civil aircraft certified for multi-crew operations with an MTOW exceeding 10,000 kg or aircraft certified and configured for more than 19 passengers, including:
    • A minimum of 500 hours (comprising at least 250 P1 and/or P1 U/S hours) accumulated in the preceding 5 years; OR
    • A minimum of 100 sectors flown in the preceding 5 years.

Selection Process and Fleet Assignment

The selection process for First Officers is comprehensive and includes a pre-employment medical check, strictly aligned with HKCAD Class 1 medical standards, and a thorough background investigation, encompassing criminal records. As this is a Safety Sensitive Role, candidates are also required to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test in accordance with the HKCAD Guidance for screening of Psychoactive Substances - Annex B, CAD373.

Successful candidates will be considered for assignment to any fleet type currently operated by Cathay Pacific, which includes the A321neo, A330, A350, B777, and B747 aircraft.
