AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot
An AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot is needed to provide advanced flight instruction to student pilots, adhering to the Army Aircrew Training Manual. Instruction encompasses advanced flight tasks, navigation, terrain flight techniques, tactics, techniques, procedures, and instrument training. Flight instruction includes contact, instruments, weapons gunnery, and night systems under day, night, and night vision goggle modes. Instruction is conducted both day and night with shift work beginning as early as 5:00 am and ending after midnight. Training occurs at Fort Rucker, Alabama, serving both U.S. Army and multinational students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Instructs and provides performance evaluations of students in classroom, flight, and simulator training environments.
- Conducts pre-flight and in-flight briefings, and post-flight After Action Reviews.
- Performs end-of-stage check rides.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- High School Graduate required; Associate or Bachelor's Degree desired.
- Graduate of the U.S. Army AH-64D/E Instructor Pilot and Methods of Instruction course.
- Minimum five years of experience as an aviator required, with the last AH-64D/E flight within the last 12 months (currency or refresher training may be provided).
- Minimum of 1000 flight hours in the AH-64D/E.
- Minimum of 250 hours as an Instructor Pilot in the AH-64D/E.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including word processing, database input, accessing electronic publications and the internet, using briefing and debriefing software, and completing electronic forms.
- Ability to support periodic travel.
- Familiarity with the operation of a military flight training base.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Willingness to work any shift or day of the week.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Must possess and maintain a current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) second-class Medical Certificate throughout the contract duration. Members of the National Guard or Reserves may hold an Army Class 2 Flight Duty Medical Exam (FDME).
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex aviation and technical documents/diagrams.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to calculate figures, amounts, and percentages, and to draw and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. The ability to interpret student requirements and attitudes from verbal, non-verbal, and written communication is essential.
Security Responsibilities:
- Compliance with all company security and data protection/usage policies and procedures.
- Responsibility for proper marking and handling of all information and materials.
- Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment:
Work performed in a standard office environment, communicating via personal computer, telephone, and fax. Potential exposure to electrical shock from moving mechanical parts and loud noises consistent with an aviation facility, including flight line operations.
Physical Demands:
- Domestic travel as required.
- Ability to walk and/or climb stairs and ladders into a simulator or airplane cockpit.
- Ability to stoop, bend, and crawl on top of or under training devices.
- Ability to detect odors or hear noises to identify problems or flaws in the surrounding environment.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
