British Airways is seeking experienced military pilots to join its operations as First Officers at Heathrow Airport, London. This permanent, full-time role offers a direct entry pathway into commercial passenger flying, primarily on the Airbus A320 fleet.
About the Role
This position provides an opportunity for experienced military aviators to transition into commercial aviation with British Airways. Successful candidates will be responsible for ensuring an exceptional passenger experience while upholding the airline's high operational standards. The role involves flying the short-haul Airbus A320 fleet, with potential opportunities on long-haul aircraft such as the A350, A380, B777, or B787 for suitably qualified individuals. The position offers a company-funded, unbonded type rating and pathways for career development, including fleet moves, accelerated command opportunities, and involvement in training, recruitment, and management initiatives.
Requirements

Recent military or equivalent fixed-wing or rotary flying experience, qualifying as a Qualified Military Pilot under CAP 2254.

Previous military or equivalent flying experience gained within the last three years.

Ability to obtain an fATPL(A) and MCC (or exemption) by the joining date.

For the short-haul pathway: a minimum of 500 hours on any military type.

For the long-haul pathway: a minimum of 1,500 hours of military flying time, including 500 hours or 100 sectors on a ZFTT-qualifying aircraft.

Must have started ATPL ground school and be confident in completing and obtaining an fATPL(A) within 18 months of application.

ICAO English Language Proficiency Level 6.

Valid passport with at least 12 months remaining at the time of joining and unrestricted worldwide travel privileges.

Right to live and work in the UK.

UK CAA Class 1 flight crew medical required before an offer (Military A1 status accepted for application).

Meeting British Airways' medical and physical-fitness standards, including a normal height range of 1.57–1.91 metres (taller applicants may apply subject to a functionality check).

Tattoos are permitted provided they are not on the hands, face, or head.

Qualified Military Pilots who have already left or plan to leave military service within 18 months are eligible to apply.
