Pilot Workforce Planning Analyst

American Airlines seeks a dedicated and analytical individual to join its Pilot Planning Team as a Workforce Planning Analyst. This pivotal role is responsible for workforce planning and analysis for over 15,000 pilots within the Integrated Operations Division. The successful candidate will support Crew Workforce Planning leaders and operational teams to enhance operational reliability and optimize enterprise costs.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain crew staffing models to analyze workforce requirements and provide accurate staffing forecasts.
  • Identify, analyze, and recommend solutions to workforce planning issues and develop strategies to optimize staffing.
  • Evaluate operational and financial implications of strategic changes including flying schedules, labor contract provisions, regulatory requirements, and technology.
  • Complete ad-hoc projects and analyses as assigned.
  • Oversee concurrent, diverse, and time-sensitive improvement projects, including workforce sourcing, regulatory changes, labor agreements, and transformation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create comprehensive strategies and solutions for routine processes (e.g., monthly pilot bids, crew counts, new hire placements) and strategic projects (e.g., long-range planning, budgeting, forecasting).
  • Work closely with Crew Planning personnel and leadership to provide support, evaluate changes, and gain buy-in for processes.
  • Leverage advanced analytics to achieve optimal staffing levels for the airline's extensive flight operations.
  • Travel for business purposes, as needed (up to 5%).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation, Business, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience/training.
  • Three years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to and working with senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL and simulation software.
  • Working knowledge of probability, statistics, and forecasting techniques.
  • Basic knowledge of airline operations or union agreements (crew, airports, etc.) and understanding of corporate planning processes.

  • Robust analytical background involving data manipulation, analysis, and presentation.

  • Proven ability to make independent judgments and decisions while taking ownership of responsibilities.
  • Strong presentation development and delivery skills.
  • Strategic mindset with the capacity to understand business objectives, work with data, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Self-motivated individual with a high standard of excellence, capable of driving results independently.
  • Ability to work effectively, meet deadlines, and adapt to shifting priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
