Functional Check Flight Pilot (LUH-72) – Amentum
Amentum seeks a highly skilled and experienced Functional Check Flight Pilot to conduct comprehensive airworthiness checks on LUH-72 (EC145) helicopters following maintenance or modifications. This critical role demands a meticulous approach to flight test procedures, ensuring the highest safety standards are consistently maintained.
Responsibilities:
The Functional Check Flight Pilot will perform a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
- Conducting functional check flights (FCFs) to assess aircraft performance and handling characteristics post-maintenance or modification.
- Interpreting meteorological data and filing accurate flight plans using authorized navigational procedures.
- Calculating and documenting aircraft weight and balance.
- Completing all necessary military flight and maintenance documentation, accurately recording FCF completion and any identified discrepancies.
- Collaborating effectively with military pilots and technicians, providing expert advice and troubleshooting support.
- Determining aircraft airworthiness in accordance with established publications and procedures prior to flight clearance.
- Executing recovery flights and ferrying aircraft to various locations, including depots.
- Performing comprehensive troubleshooting of aircraft systems both in flight and on the ground, implementing appropriate corrective actions.
- Verifying maintenance forms and records for accuracy and compliance.
- Preparing aircraft for alert status and conducting tests on modifications.
- Deploying to support contract requirements as needed.
- Conducting ferry flights as assigned.
- Maintaining meticulous and comprehensive documentation.
- Serving as a site safety specialist and/or safety officer (as qualified).
- Supporting AS9100-AS9110 internal audits, corrective action requests, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Leading pilot duties (as designated).
- Performing Aircraft Technical Inspections (TI) including inspection of power plant hot and cold sections, accessory modules, and helicopter powertrains.
- Providing technical guidance to maintenance personnel on repair techniques and safety procedures.
- Maintaining technical libraries, inspecting systems and components per technical publications and checklists.
- Conducting system checks and troubleshooting, annotating required maintenance records.
- Evaluating aircraft operational readiness and recommending corrective actions.
- Inspecting crash-damaged aircraft and providing cost and repair time estimates.
- Ensuring compliance with aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis programs, and test measurement and diagnostic calibration procedures.
- Evaluating maintenance operations and facilities for compliance with relevant directives, manuals, standards, safety procedures and operational policies.
- Performing maintenance trend analysis and applying production control, quality control, and other maintenance management principles.
- Performing other qualified duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1000 hours Pilot-in-Command (PIC) experience.
- Proficiency in operating the LUH-72 (EC145) helicopter.
- Current valid Army or FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with an Instrument Rating.
- Meets the qualification requirements of AR 95-20.
- Currency in accordance with AR 95-1.
- Successful completion of annual flight evaluation IAW AR 95-1 and the appropriate Aircrew Training Manual (ATM).
- Ability to obtain/maintain Security Clearance (NAC-I T1) Public trust.
- Successful completion of initial and annual Army or FAA second-class flight physicals.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Proven aviation experience demonstrating the highest standards of ethics, ability, and professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written) with fluency in English.
- Working knowledge of aircraft navigational and communication equipment.
- Ability to compute and annotate weight and balance logs.
Physical Requirements/Working Environment:
The successful candidate must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. The work environment may include exposure to extreme noise, fumes, airborne particles, electrical hazards, moving mechanical parts, extreme weather conditions, and rudimentary infrastructure. The position requires color distinction, depth perception, the ability to see aircraft in flight, read gauges, identify small objects, climb ladders up to 12 feet, lift up to 50 pounds, and tolerate rapid temperature changes. Exposure to chemical mists, gases, vapors, ultraviolet and infrared radiation is also possible.
Travel:
Domestic and international travel may be required, including to austere environments and under potentially harsh living conditions, often on short notice.
