Plane Captain
Overview
This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft. The Plane Captain is responsible for a range of tasks including aircraft handling, servicing, daily and turn-around inspections, and pre-operational checks on ground support equipment. This individual will also provide technical expertise, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers, contributing to a well-trained and proficient team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Execute all duties and responsibilities associated with the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.
- Conduct meticulous daily and turn-around inspections of aircraft, adhering to established procedures.
- Initiate and finalize all relevant maintenance forms accurately.
- Perform aircraft fuel sampling and servicing in accordance with established procedures.
- Manage aircraft launch and recovery procedures.
- Act as aircraft taxi director during launch and recovery operations, ensuring precise maneuvering.
- Conduct aircraft towing operations and serve as a brake rider when required.
- Secure and cover aircraft using established procedures, safeguarding them from the elements.
- Provide comprehensive technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to team members, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.
- Utilize two-way communication equipment effectively to maintain clear and concise communication.
- Enforce strict compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs, upholding the highest safety standards.
- Ensure adherence to all applicable general and industrial safety regulations pertaining to the contract, facility, and specific job assignment.
- Safeguard the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver courteous and professional customer service at all times.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment proficiently in case of emergency.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center, promoting a safe and efficient working environment.
- Perform other assigned duties as required, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License.
- Ability to obtain/maintain any company/government required qualification, certification, licensing, or security clearance.
- Strong command of the English language, including reading, writing, understanding, and communicating effectively, as well as following verbal and written instructions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.
- Extensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Willingness to work any assigned shift and schedule, demonstrating flexibility and commitment.
- Ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of varying durations, showcasing adaptability and resourcefulness.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
The role requires a full range of physical movements associated with shop/hanger/flight line maintenance activities including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in potentially tiring and uncomfortable positions. The selected candidate must possess strong eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds. Extended periods of walking and standing on level and inclined surfaces are required. The position demands excellent vision including close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, as well as normal hearing ability. The use of a respirator may be required at times. Work conditions may vary from comfortable environments to those with inclement weather, including temperature extremes, wind, and rain. The role may involve working in areas with high noise levels, potential electrical shock hazards, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
