United States

The Second in Command (SIC) position is designated for a flight or series of flights, adhering to the principles and procedures mandated by FAR Part 135. The SIC is accountable for the secure and efficient execution of assigned flight duties. Supporting the Pilot in Command (PIC), who retains ultimate authority in aircraft operations, the SIC exercises Operational Control at the Tier 2 level as outlined in the General Operations Manual, Chapter 5. The SIC must fulfill minimum qualifications as stipulated by Federal Aviation Regulation Part 135.245.

This fixed-wing pilot position features a rotating schedule of 8 days on duty followed by 6 days off. While on duty, pilots work a 12-hour shift (or up to the maximum permitted under Part 135, if on a mission), commencing from their residence, and must adhere to the program's designated call-out time to ensure on-time trip launches. Pilot shifts are assigned as either day duty or night duty periods, scheduled the month prior by the Base Lead Pilot to facilitate sufficient rest cycle preparation. Pilots generally maintain the same duty period during their assigned 8-day shift and then transition to the next duty period for their subsequent 8-day shift assignment. While changes to duty periods within an 8-day shift are discouraged, they may occur based on local base requirements.

Key requirements for this position include: Must reside in, or be willing to relocate to Birmingham, AL. Must hold, or be able to attain, HS-125-800 PIC Type Rating. Must hold, or be eligible to hold an FAA ATP Certificate.
