Second in Command (SIC) - Aviation

The Second in Command (SIC) functions as the designated SIC for flight operations, adhering to the principles and procedures outlined in FAR Part 135. The SIC is accountable for the safe and efficient execution of flight duties as assigned. The SIC supports the Pilot in Command (PIC) in their final authority regarding aircraft operation and exercises Operational Control at the Tier 2 level, as detailed in the General Operations Manual, Chapter 5. Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications stipulated by Federal Aviation Regulation Part 135.245.

This fixed-wing pilot position follows a rotating schedule of 8 days on duty followed by 6 days off. While on duty, pilots serve a 12-hour shift (or up to the maximum permitted under Part 135 if on a mission) from their place of residence and must adhere to the program's specified call-out time to ensure timely trip launches. Pilot shift assignments consist of either a day duty period or a night duty period, scheduled the month prior by the Base Lead Pilot to facilitate adequate rest cycle planning. Pilots generally maintain the same duty period during their assigned 8-day shift and then rotate to the subsequent duty period during their next 8-day shift assignment. Duty period changes within an 8-day shift are discouraged but may occur based on local Base needs.
