The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and a leading non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots across 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, is seeking an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office.

As a vital contributor to the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the primary staff focal point for ALPA's policy areas concerning Training and Human Performance. This role involves providing expert knowledge and support, coordinating activities related to human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other assigned disciplines. The Coordinator acts as a key liaison between the Association and various government agencies, industry bodies, trade groups, and professional organizations within these domains. Responsibilities include actively participating in activities focused on the development and international harmonization of regulatory standards. The position requires close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO) and its constituent groups, as well as other technical departments and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure. The role also requires participation in the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and Pilot Peer Support line rotation, which may include calls outside of normal business hours, on weekends, and during holidays.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent combination of human performance and training education and experience.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
  • Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
  • Thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
  • Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities.
  • Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is essential.
  • Technical writing and presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Pilot's license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types. (Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the licensing requirement).
  • Prior employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or industry segment in a relevant capacity is extremely helpful.

Physical Demands:

The position involves characteristic physical demands necessary to perform essential functions, including constant computer use, maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local area, communicating verbally and in writing, and occasionally moving objects up to ten pounds. Travel may involve handling luggage up to 50 lbs.

Travel:

Up to 20% travel is anticipated; sporadically, travel (local and national) could reach as much as 25% of the time.

Projected Annual Salary Range:

$96,027.00 – $137,179.00
