Training & Human Performance Coordinator
Position Overview:
The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and a leading non-governmental aviation safety organization representing over 79,000 pilots across 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, seeks a skilled and experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator. This vital role is based at ALPA's office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia. Operating within the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Coordinator functions as the primary staff focal point for Training and Human Performance policy areas. The position provides essential expertise and support, coordinates activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other assigned areas. The Coordinator also serves as a key liaison between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations within these disciplines, contributing to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards worldwide. This role involves close collaboration with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its associated groups, other technical departments, and Master Executive Councils (MECs).
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the staff focal point and subject matter expert for Training and Human Performance policies.
- Provide expertise, support, and coordination for activities related to human performance, training, human factors, and other relevant areas.
- Act as a liaison between ALPA and government, industry, trade, and professional organizations focusing on these disciplines.
- Contribute to the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally.
- Collaborate closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), related groups, other technical departments, and MECs.
- On a rotational basis, respond to calls for the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and Pilot Peer Support line, which may include periods outside standard business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, or an equivalent combination of relevant human performance, training education, and experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience is required in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Requires a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Desired qualifications include a pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types; additional aviation safety experience may be considered in lieu of the licensing requirement.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities are necessary.
- Previous employment in a relevant capacity at airlines, the FAA, or within the industry segment is highly beneficial.
- The ability to learn quickly and adapt seamlessly to changing demands is extremely important.
- Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills are required to communicate effectively with Association members, Officers, government and industry representatives, stakeholders, and staff.
- Must be able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
Travel:
This position requires travel up to 20%; sporadically, local and national travel could reach 25% of the time.
Physical Demands:
The role involves operating computers and mobile devices regularly, maintaining stationary positions, moving about the office and local area, and conversing with others. It requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving within the office and while traveling. Occasional lifting of items up to ten (10) pounds in the office is required, with potential for lifting luggage up to 50 lbs. during travel.

Salary:
The projected annual salary range for this position is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00.
