The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest airline pilot union and non-governmental aviation safety organization, seeks a highly qualified Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its Tysons (McLean), Virginia office. Representing over 79,000 pilots across 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, ALPA is dedicated to advancing pilot training, safety, and human performance standards globally.
This role serves as a key focal point within ALPA's Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, providing essential expertise and support in the areas of human performance, training, human factors, and related disciplines. The Coordinator is responsible for coordinating activities, serving as a vital liaison between ALPA and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations. A significant aspect of the position involves contributing to the development and harmonization of aviation regulatory standards worldwide. The Coordinator also collaborates closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its associated groups, and other technical groups and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Frequent travel, up to 20% domestically and occasionally up to 25%, may be required.
Minimum Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, or an equivalent combination of human performance, training, education, and relevant experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance is essential.
- Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Requires a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and proven time management abilities are necessary.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel is required.
- Ability to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- Capable of technical writing and presentation to effectively communicate with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
- Required to answer calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line on a rotational basis, which includes coverage outside of normal business hours, weekends, and holidays.
Desired Qualifications:
- A pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is highly desired. Additional experience in aviation safety may be considered in substitution for the licensing requirement.
- Previous employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or the aviation industry in a relevant capacity would be extremely helpful.
- Ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is considered extremely important.
Physical Demands:
The position requires the ability to constantly operate a computer/smartphone/tablet, maintain a stationary position, move about the office and local metropolitan area, communicate effectively, and exchange accurate information. Regular activities include sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and travel (locally, nationally, and internationally). Occasional lifting and moving of items up to ten pounds in the office is required, with the potential for lifting luggage up to 50 lbs during travel.

The projected annual salary range for this position is $96,027.00 – $137,179.00.
