The Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the largest airline pilot union and the largest non-governmental aviation safety organization in the world, representing over 79,000 pilots at 42 U.S. and Canadian airlines, is seeking an experienced Training & Human Performance Coordinator for its office in Tysons (McLean), Virginia.
As an integral member of the Engineering & Air Safety (E&AS) department, the Training & Human Performance Coordinator serves as the staff focal point for the Association's Training and Human Performance policy areas. This role provides essential expertise and support while coordinating activities in the fields of human performance, pilot training, human factors, and other related disciplines. The Coordinator acts as a liaison between the Association and various government, industry, trade, and professional organizations pertinent to these areas, and contributes to activities involving the development and harmonization of regulatory standards globally. This position works closely with the ALPA Air Safety Organization (ASO), its associated groups, other technical groups, and Master Executive Councils (MECs) within the ALPA structure.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required; or, an equivalent combination of human performance and training education and experience.
- A minimum of five (5) years of direct experience is required in aviation safety, pilot training, human factors, and/or human performance.
- Must possess established professional contacts within the international and North American aviation community.
- Requires a thorough understanding of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) and Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for effective interaction with staff, pilot members, and external contacts.
- Excellent organizational skills and practiced time management are necessary.
- The ability to learn quickly and seamlessly adapt to changing demands is extremely important.
- Requires technical writing and presentation skills to communicate effectively with Association members and Officers, government and industry representatives and stakeholders, and staff.
- Must be able to work independently and proactively identify and respond to issues and problems.
- On a rotational basis, the role involves answering calls to the ALPA Worldwide Accident Hotline and the Pilot Peer Support line, including outside business hours, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel software is expected.
Desired Qualifications:
- A Pilot’s license with an instrument rating and experience operating various aircraft types is desired.
- Former employment at airlines, the FAA, and/or relevant industry segments in a relevant capacity is extremely helpful.
- Additional experience in aviation safety may be substituted for the pilot licensing requirement.
Travel:
Up to 20% travel is anticipated; sporadically, travel, both local and national, could be as much as 25% of the time.

The physical demands are characteristic of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. This includes constantly operating a computer/smartphone/tablet; regularly maintaining a stationary position, moving about the office and local area, determining what others have communicated, and conversing to exchange information; regularly sitting, standing, bending, reaching, and moving about the office and while traveling; and occasionally moving or lifting items up to ten (10) pounds in the office, with potential responsibility for moving luggage up to 50 lbs. while traveling.

Projected Annual Salary Range:
$96,027.00 – $137,179.00
