Aviation Flight Instructor
An Aviation Flight Instructor is sought to join our team, contributing to the development of future aviation professionals. This role involves providing high-quality flight and ground instruction, ensuring student success, and upholding the highest standards of safety and professionalism within the aviation department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure safe day-to-day operations, encompassing flight activities and airport security protocols.
- Deliver comprehensive instruction in relevant aviation courses as defined by the program curriculum.
- Manage and schedule assigned student progress, ensuring timely completion of course materials and reporting any training delays to the supervisor.
- Train students to achieve proficiency and safety as pilots, effectively preparing them for FAA practical examinations (check rides).
- Schedule and conduct student flight and ground lessons, incorporating appropriate pre-flight/ground briefings and post-flight/ground debriefings.
- Provide assistance to the Chief Flight Instructor with managing aircraft documentation, including database updates and tracking aircraft total time.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive records, including student training logs, pilot logbooks, and aircraft maintenance documentation.
- Participate in company-sponsored aviation events such as seminars, symposiums, open houses, air shows, and recruitment activities as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support department operations.
Required Qualifications:
- FAA Commercial Pilot Certificate with an Airplane Single Engine Land Rating.
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor Certificate with an Airplane Single Engine Land Rating.
- FAA Certified Flight Instructor Instrument Certificate.
- Current FAA Second Class Medical Certificate.
- Demonstrated excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications necessary for training, scheduling, and record keeping.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for days, evenings, nights, and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
- FAA Multiengine Instructor Certificate.
- FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
- Previous instructional experience.
Reporting Relationship:
This position reports to the Aviation Department Supervisor, Dean of Academics, and Vice President.
Terms of Employment:
Compensation is based on an hourly rate set by the Watertown School Board. The hourly instructor rates for the 2024-2025 academic year are as follows:
- Flight Instruction: $43.50 per hour
- Ground Instruction: $24.40 per hour
- Fleet Management: $15.00 per hour
