The Opportunity
TC Energy is actively seeking a permanent, highly skilled Pilot to join Canada’s leading utility aviation team. Based in Bolton, Ontario, this position offers the excitement of flying in a challenging and rewarding environment, supporting critical infrastructure and operations across Canada and the USA. As a key member of the flight operations team, the Pilot will play a crucial role in delivering essential services, including aerial support for pipeline patrols and personnel transport.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient execution of flight operations, demonstrating leadership and adherence to stringent safety protocols. Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as Pilot in Command or delegating duties as directed by the base manager or Chief Pilot.
- Ensuring the operation and safety of the helicopter, and for the security of all persons involved during flight operations.
- Providing liaison with the company’s lines of business in determining flight operation requirements and delivering necessary expertise for helicopter-related work.
- Conducting comprehensive safety briefings, including instruction on aircraft safety/survival equipment location and techniques of use in the event of an emergency.
- Performing thorough preflight planning for each day’s patrol schedule, overseeing safe configuration of aircraft, including adherence to all-up-weight load-limit specifications and proper loading and securement of cargo.
- Completing obligatory administrative tasks at required intervals, such as recording flight duty times, managing aircraft document revision control, and handling expense and time sheet management.
- Assisting with hangar-related tasks when needed.
- Actively participating in the Company’s Safety Management System (SMS) by regularly reporting hazards and incidents when encountered and aiding in corrective action follow-up processes.
- Supporting TC Energy’s mission to provide reliable pipeline transmission by:
- Accepting work away from base for up to three-week periods.
- Adjusting regular work schedules upon short notice for emergency circumstances.
- Following TC Energy’s code of conduct, embracing inclusiveness, and refraining from workplace harassment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate.
- Valid Commercial (or higher) Canadian Pilot License.
- Minimum of 4,000 flight hours on Turbine-powered helicopters.
- Ability to work effectively in a two-crew operation.
- Restricted Radiotelephone Operator License.
- Comfortable conducting low-level patrol operations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently without constant supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Extensive experience on AS350B3, H125, BH206 L4, and BH206 Jetranger aircraft.
- Recent Flying in the Wires Training.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian Air Regulations with significant experience flying in Canadian remote as well as high-density airspace.
- Prior experience conducting pipeline line patrols.
- Solid aviation knowledge base, including weather reporting, GPS and electronic mapping navigational techniques, weather minima, and aircraft radio communication.
- Comfortable working with modern electronic systems and document control.
- Possession and demonstration of well-developed communication, public relations, and documentation writing skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decisiveness in stressful and emergency situations.
- First aid training.
- A clean flight record with no accidents or incidents.
Additional Requirements
This position requires candidates to:
- Possess current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, the USA, and Mexico).
- Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Hold and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract (record) for review.
- Travel to other company locations, with overnight stays away from home base required (estimated up to 50% of work schedule).
- Possess, or be eligible to receive, a valid passport and maintain travel eligibility for Domestic, Cross-Border, and International Travel (including the USA and Mexico).
- Undergo criminal background checks.
- Be available for variable work days, including weekends.
