Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Instructor
Thrust Institute of Maintenance (TIM) is actively seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Instructor to join its esteemed full-time faculty team. Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Professional Obligations
- Providing exceptional instruction and fostering an optimal learning environment that facilitates student success.
- Delivering clear, effective communication of complex technical information and promoting active learning.
- Designing, sequencing, implementing, and presenting engaging instructional experiences that enhance student understanding.
- Developing, implementing, and utilizing tools, technologies, and procedures for assessing student learning outcomes.
- Collaborating in the development and implementation of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments.
- Applying learning-centered educational practices, including the creation and clear communication of defined outcomes for student learning.
- Providing a diverse array of learning activities directly tied to established learning outcomes.
- Utilizing assessment data to continuously improve instruction and learning, and participating in ongoing campus-wide dialogues about teaching and learning.
- Developing and refining departmental curriculum as necessary to maintain currency in pedagogy and content.
- Adopting new teaching methodologies and instructional strategies as appropriate.
- Implementing departmental, divisional, and/or institutional goals as assigned.
- Maintaining regular office hours, submitting grades and course syllabi promptly, and meeting all assigned classes.
- Managing classroom facilities effectively and maintaining accurate attendance and grade records.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support institutional objectives and student success.
Scholarly & Creative Activities (Professional Development)
- Engaging in professional development endeavors related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment that contribute to the discovery, dissemination, and practical application of knowledge and skills.
- Acquiring and/or maintaining all necessary professional certifications.
- Attending industry conferences, workshops, and specialized training appropriate to one’s field.
- Completing coursework relevant to one’s teaching assignment.
- Innovating in teaching methodology and instructional design.
- Engaging in other activities that contribute to staying current in the content field of aviation maintenance.
- Actively supporting the school in meeting the goals and objectives of its mission and strategic plan.
- Providing competent academic advising to students seeking program certificates.
- Fulfilling institutional service requirements by making meaningful contributions on campus and/or to community service groups.
- Participating in institutional and departmental recruitment and retention activities.
- Assisting in the evaluation and selection of textbooks and other resources and materials in one’s assigned area.
- Serving on department, division, and institutional committees.
- Contributing to program and curriculum review, revision, and the development and assessment of learning.
- Maintaining classrooms and/or laboratory facilities to ensure a conducive learning environment.
- Demonstrating a willingness to embrace and apply the provisions of the school's mission statement, purpose, philosophy, and commitment to diversity.
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of one (1) year of dedicated teaching experience within an FAA Part 147 Aircraft Maintenance Training School, an Aviation Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program, or a Military Aircraft Maintenance Training Program.
- Eligibility for a full-time, post-secondary vocational credential in Aviation issued by the Aims Community College CTE Office. This requires at least two (2) years (4,000 hours) of approved experience in Aviation.
- Possession of a current FAA Part 65 Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate.
- Demonstrated ability to teach using methodologies that support a student-centered learning environment.
- Proficiency in computer literacy and the ability to effectively use computer technology in classroom and laboratory instruction.
- A willingness to undertake additional coursework in teaching methods, curriculum development, computer applications, or other areas deemed necessary by the A&P Chief, Executive Director, or Academic Dean.
- A positive attitude toward teaching courses in varied modalities, including online, synchronous remote, and traditional face-to-face formats.
Preferred Qualifications
- An Associate's Degree in Aviation Maintenance or another closely related field.
- Experience teaching and supporting diverse and traditionally under-served student populations.
- A demonstrated aptitude for developing course content and delivering instruction across various modalities: online, synchronous remote, traditional face-to-face, and blended (hybrid) environments.
- Preference for 8,000 – 10,000 hours of combined work and/or teaching experience in aviation.
