Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Sr. Staff Test Pilot to join their Flight Test Operations team in Baltimore, Maryland. This role is integral to supporting the development, assessment, and demonstration of Northrop Grumman's products and systems, involving extensive flight testing across multiple aircraft and sensor development programs.
About the Role
The Sr. Staff Test Pilot will be a key contributor to a dynamic flight test team, conducting approximately 1,000 flight hours annually. The role involves flight testing on six different aircraft types, supporting over 40 sensor development programs, and participating in large force exercises to evaluate technology in operationally relevant environments. Responsibilities include maintaining proficiency in various aircraft, performing research and development flight tests for sensor development, planning and executing test flights to verify analysis for aircraft modifications, and coordinating flight operations within the National Airspace System, including special use airspace and military assets. The position also requires providing technical support and liaison with program teams for sensor integration.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with 14 years of professional/military experience; Master’s degree with 12 years of professional/military experience; or PhD with 10 years of professional/military experience.

Graduation from an internationally recognized Test Pilot School (long course).

A current FAA Class II medical certificate or the ability to obtain one prior to start.

Minimum of 1,000 hours of fixed-wing Aircraft Commander/Pilot in Command/Primary flight time in turbojet, turbofan, or turboprop aircraft.

Possession of an FAA Commercial Multi-Engine Land (AMEL) pilot certificate without a centerline thrust restriction, or the ability to obtain one prior to start.

U.S. Citizenship and an interim U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance are required for commencement of employment. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) clearance is also mandatory.
Qualifications

3+ years of experience as a test pilot in developmental and/or operational flight test.

FAA Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) rating.

Master’s degree in engineering or a related technical discipline.

Prior experience with aircraft modifications, configuration and control, and participation in technical/operational review boards.

Familiarity with government flight test organizations, ranges, and processes.

Technical and operational familiarity with airborne radar systems.

A current and active U.S. Government Secret Security clearance or higher.
