Experienced Flight Dispatcher (Type A)
Summit Air, a prominent Canadian aviation leader headquartered in Yellowknife, NWT, is actively seeking a highly skilled and experienced Licensed Type A Dispatcher/Flight Dispatcher to join its dynamic team in Edmonton, AB. This pivotal role is central to overseeing the safe and efficient scheduling and dispatching of Summit Air’s diverse fleet.

Essential Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for a comprehensive range of flight dispatch duties, including:
- Performing diligent pre-flight duties by reviewing routing, airport suitability, NOTAMs, regulatory restrictions, and current weather conditions to ensure flight safety and scheduled adherence.
- Collaborating closely with the Captain to thoroughly review and confirm the suitability of planned flights.
- Assessing detailed weather reports and promptly informing flight crews of any potential hazards.
- Conducting essential checks on aircraft maintenance status and operational readiness.
- Reviewing and verifying aircraft weight, fuel loads, and cargo loads to ensure compliance and safety standards.
- Executing general duties to ensure aircraft are optimally prepared for flight from a planning perspective.
- Coordinating effectively with the Operations Control Center (OCC) regarding client requirements, routing, delays, and any necessary operational updates.
- Communicating departure times to air traffic control and airport staff, and post-departure, providing timely reports on aircraft status and predicted arrival times.
- Preparing the Operational Flight Plan (OFP) for each leg of the planned flight prior to the flight crew's arrival, conducting a thorough review with the Captain to ensure all considerations are addressed before flight commencement.
Qualifications
Applicants for this critical position should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Possession of a valid Type A Dispatcher license or successful completion of all required examinations.
- Demonstrated prior experience in a Flight Dispatching role within the aviation industry.
- A strong commitment to safety as the top priority, coupled with unwavering professionalism and dedication to operational excellence.
- Proven ability to perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-stakes operational environment.
- Exceptional decisiveness, capable of making rapid and sound judgments concerning safety, flight regulations, and operational economy.
- High level of competence with technology, given the heavy reliance on computer software systems, calculators, weather charts, and loading reports in day-to-day tasks.
- Strong analytical skills to effectively interpret complex information and apply it to flight plans.
- Outstanding teamwork capabilities, fostering close collaboration with other flight dispatchers, pilots, and OCC staff.
- The essential ability to concentrate for extended periods, vital for a role responsible for the safety of aircraft and passengers.
- Excellent communication skills for seamless coordination with the OCC, fellow dispatchers, and flight crew members.
- A detailed and in-depth knowledge of Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), aviation weather analysis, aircraft performance, aircraft systems, and the logistical understanding required for daily flight operations.
Working Conditions
- This will be an on-site position based in Edmonton, AB.
- Shift times are to be determined but will involve a rotational schedule of either 4 days on/4 days off OR 1 week on/1 week off.
