Job Description:

Under the general direction of the Dean of Liberal Arts, the Aviation Instructor position consists of teaching, assessment, administrative, and advising duties. This may include teaching up to 15 credit-hours per semester, including AER 101: Introduction to Flight Lab and AER 103: Introduction to Flight. In lieu of teaching 15 credits, the instructor may earn release time for administrative duties. Special consideration will be given to candidates who are certified flight, as well as ground, instructors and to those able to teach AER elective courses. This job also includes conducting such assessment duties as course and program review and helping to develop an Aviation advisory committee. Other responsibilities may include such administrative duties as developing orientation materials, scheduling students' flights, inputting lab flight data into online scheduling and other data systems, and securing internships for ATC students. Advising duties include maintaining an appointment calendar in order to set continuing and returning student appointments for advisement, as well as serving as advisor to the Aviation Club. Supervisory Responsibility

The incumbent does not have supervisory responsibility.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teach up 15 credits of AER courses
  • Participate in the assessment, revision, and development of curricula and instructional methods
  • Hold office hours for students
  • Participate in college governance, committees, and division-level efforts including, but not limited to, retention, recruitment, and program review
  • Serve on college committees
  • Model lifelong learning by actively engaging in independent and college-offered professional development to increase knowledge in one's content area and teaching methods
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean.


Requirements:

Education & Experience

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Science or related discipline
  • Certified Ground Instructor
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, preferably at community college
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • The ability to create inclusive and engaging learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body
  • Commitment to community college student access and success
  • Demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Flight Instructor
  • Master's Degree in Aviation Science or related discipline
  • Ability to teach any or all of the following courses: ATC 110: Air Traffic Basics; PHY 106 Meteorology; and/or 236: Flight Safety;
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience utilizing and developing innovative learning strategies
  • Excel and other database experience
