Job Overview
SAIC's Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team is actively seeking an experienced, part-time Air Traffic Control Instructor to join its dedicated ranks at the Lovell Field ATCT (CHA) in Chattanooga, TN. This critical role involves providing essential air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA holds the paramount responsibility of ensuring that air traffic control specialists provide the flying public with the highest levels of safety and professionalism. A highly skilled and well-trained Air Traffic Control (ATC) workforce is indispensable for fulfilling this mission. SAIC, as a key partner, delivers comprehensive instructional services and training program support to various FAA ATC facilities throughout the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS).
The Air Traffic Control Instructor position is a hands-on role that demands the effective and consistent delivery of superior quality classroom and/or simulation laboratory training. Instruction will be provided to a diverse student body, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive, high-quality classroom and/or simulation laboratory training sessions to developmental and Certified Professional Controllers (CPC).
- Provide expert mentorship and guidance to students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPO).
- Actively contribute to the design, development, and continuous improvement of air traffic control training curriculum.
- Effectively utilize and provide instruction on current ATC automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures.
- Collaborate seamlessly with FAA personnel at all levels to ensure training services meet the specific needs of the local facility and align with the FAA's overarching Air Traffic Control mission.
Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory, coupled with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
- A minimum of five (5) years of FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) experience controlling live traffic, or recent experience as a contract Instructor at an FAA facility.
- Prior ATC facility experience must have been at the same type and at least the same level of facility as the Lovell Field ATCT (CHA).
- Demonstrated strong technical proficiency with current Air Traffic Control automation, simulation systems, and operational procedures.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Current FAA Certified Professional Controller (CPC) certification is required.
- Proven ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills essential for obtaining radar and/or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications at FAA air traffic control facilities within the U.S. National Airspace System.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Direct experience as a Certified Professional Controller (CPC) specifically at the Lovell Field ATCT (CHA) is highly preferred.
- Operational experience with various ATC simulators, including expertise in scenario design for platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, or SGET.
- Demonstrated ability to interface effectively with FAA personnel at all levels, ensuring training services consistently meet the needs of the local facility and the broader FAA Air Traffic Control mission.
- Proven excellence in teaching and/or platform skills, coupled with strong classroom management techniques and a student-focused drive for continuous improvement.
